Steam is a playground for RPGs. Whether they're small or impossibly expansive, new ones are coming out almost every day. It's one of the most interesting genres around for many reasons, but the key is that developers can really let their hair down with RPGs, crafting unique worlds worth living in digitally for a time.
Steam also makes it easy to drop your vision onto a platform with as little red tape as possible, so you end up seeing even more RPGs on the platform than on other storefronts. The thing is, it can be hard to locate the one that's perfectly attuned to your interests at any given time.
Thanks to new information on SteamDB, fans have discovered a brand-new open-world RPG that's climbing the Steam charts quickly.
Despite its release mere days ago, NTE: Neverness to Everness has skyrocketed up the Steam charts, and is currently sitting at "Very Positive" reviews on the platform.
At the time of publication, it's ranked number three in trending games on SteamDB, above Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Cat Mail Co, eSports Manager 2026, and Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. While it doesn't have as many users as several of these games, it's rising by the day and could end up trending even higher.
Described as a "supernatural urban open-world RPG," Hotta Studio describes the framework of the game: "Your story begins in Hethereau as an unlicensed anomaly hunter. Team up with a diverse cast of companions, each with unique abilities, to unravel the city's mysteries."
Kicking off at a rundown antique shop, you'll eventually acquire more party members and companions as you explore the city. The game world is exceedingly deep when it comes to its lore, and the characters on offer really run the gamut in terms of appearance and movesets.
"Lighthearted connections" are teased as a major sticking point for NTE, including the ability to forge bonds with your party. It also features disparate elements, such as anime-style fantasy combat mixed with realistic sports cars for traversal.
Fans are calling it fairer than other similar free RPGs, like this review: "So, for those of you who are tired of gacha games, NTE might honestly feel like a breath of fresh air. It feels very different from what I’m used to playing, especially because the monetization is not constantly shoved in your face. The game rewards you a lot early on, maybe even too much at times, since rewards end up scattered across many submenus, but overall it feels surprisingly generous with events, maintenance compensation, and general progression rewards."
If you're a Steam fan and want a new RPG to try out, NTE could be a great shout. Given the positive reviews, fans are happy enough with the monetization system for now, and there's a lot to do.
