Strictly Come Dancing's Craig Revel Horwood Says He Was Stabbed

‘Dancing With the Stars’ Reveals Familiar Face Joining Season 35

Craig Revel Horwood is looking back on a horrifying incident.

The Strictly Come Dancing judge recalled the terrifying moment he was stabbed and robbed while leaving a night club in Madrid, Spain.

“I went on holiday in Madrid and got stabbed. That was nice. And it was stinking hot,” Horwood said on the Aug. 4 episode of his and Anton Du Beke’s Judgemental podcast. “My jewelry was stolen as well. They ripped my necklace off my neck and gave me a big burn mark.”

The attack took place as Horwood was making his way home from a nightclub at around 2 a.m., noting he was suddenly “slashed” by a razor blade in the stomach during his journey.

To make matters worse, the professional dancer had an appearance in Paris shortly after the incident, which began with an invasive encounter with French customs agents.

“I got strip-searched,” he explained. “I hadn’t shaved, so I did look a bit of a wreck, I’d been stabbed, I had burn marks all around my neck from where I was, like, attacked.”

“And then the French strip-searched me down to literally nothing,” he continued. “They were looking for drugs.”

While the trip may mark his most violent vacation story to date, the famed choreographer shared it wouldn’t be the only war story he has from his travels.

After all, the 61-year-old also shared his “horrendous” experience while visiting Africa.

“I remember flying to Mombasa in Kenya. It was all fabulous,” he explained. “I thought, ‘Oh yeah, I’m going on safari, that’s going to be nice.’”

“Got out there, arrived, all the hotels and everything were paid for in advance, and they’re giving us a bus from the airport to the hotel,” he added, “and they said on arrival, ‘Your hotel has burnt down.’”

He emphasized, “The hotel was burnt down, and no one bothered to tell us until we actually arrived.”

But the trip took an even sharper turn for the worst when Horwood—who is engaged to horticulturist Jonathan Myring—went on what was supposed to be a “romantic cruise” in Egypt, only for multiple people to get salmonella poisoning from “off chicken” eaten the night before.

“One by one, when we’re standing in the queue at the airport, people just were falling to the ground,” he recalled, “literally dropping, like boom.”

Even so, it seems Horwood’s luck had finally turned around. After all, he and his friend who were boarding the flight to the cruise didn’t end up contracting the bacterial infection, which was of course a reason to celebrate.

“We were fine,” he said. “So, I was like, ‘Oh, I’ll have a rusty nail, darling.”
