Warning: Spoilers for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

But while the post-credits scene features Princess Daisy, what it doesn't do is signal what her role will be or what will bring her into the orbit of the main characters. All it shows is Princess Daisy appearing at the Gateway Galaxy and stopping a theft by a Ukkiki.

What it could mean, though, since the Gateway Galaxy serves as a method of transportation, is that Princess Daisy is departing her homeland and will enter the story of the next Super Mario movie as a visitor to the Mushroom Kingdom.

Since Princess Daisy occupies a world separate from the Mushroom Kingdom, such a scenario does make sense for how Daisy comes into play. And it would also go hand-in-hand with a theory about what story a sequel would adapt, and who else it might include.

What Princess Daisy's Debut May Reveal About A Third Super Mario Movie

Princess Daisy's apparent inclusion in the next story points to a possible focus on Super Mario Land, which is not only the game that debuted her, but also the only mainline Super Mario game where's she vital to the plot. In the 1989 Game Boy classic, Mario goes an adventure in a new world called Sarasaland, which is under the reign of Princess Daisy.

Mario's main goal in Super Mario Land is to stop Tatanga, a purple alien piloting a UFO. Tatanga has conquered Sarasaland and taken Daisy captive, forcing Mario to venture across the four kingdoms that comprise Sarasaland to weaken Tatanga's rule and ultimately defeat him in the final battle.

For all the games The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie have taken inspiration from in building their narratives, Super Mario Land curiously wasn't one of them (apart from some minor Easter eggs). This alone could be an indication of a plan for a story based on the game in the future. And with Daisy now on board, that's even more likely.

Daisy possibly being on her way to the Mushroom Kingdom could open the door for that to happen. Granted, she's a prisoner in Super Mario Land, but since The Super Mario Bros. Movie walked away from the damsel-in-distress trope in regards to Peach, it makes sense that a sequel would do the same with Daisy.

In which case, Super Mario Land's plot could be reworked to have Daisy turn to Peach for help in saving Sarasaland.

How Wario Would Tie Into A Super Mario Land Adaptation

Wario isn't in Super Mario Land, and yet, going in this direction would nonetheless open the door for him too to appear in the next sequel. After all, Wario's introduction into the franchise came as a direct result of Mario's conflict with Tatanga over Princess Daisy.

In the 1992 sequel, it's revealed that Mario's adventures in Sarasaland left his home vulnerable to a takeover by Wario. Titled Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, the video game debut of Wario sees the now-iconic anti-hero serve as the main villain, with Mario working to save his home from his old rival.

Given the movies' track record of combining story beats and major moments from multiple games into one narrative, it's not hard to imagine a sequel to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie applying a similar approach to Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2.

It's quite possible that while one group of characters is off in Sarasaland helping Princess Daisy do battle with Tatanga (or perhaps another Super Mario villain), those who remain behind in the Mushroom Kingdom are forced to fend for themselves against the opportunistic Wario.
