The MCU has given Doctor Doom the perfect excuse to replicate the Avengers: Infinity War opening scene with Thanos that made the latter villain such an imposing presence in both the 2018 film and in Avengers: Endgame. Doctor Doom's impending role in Avengers: Doomsday is one that's garnered considerable excitement and considerable uncertainty already, since the villain has only had a very small window of time to be introduced and set up in the MCU timeline, which naturally raises some unique obstacles for both Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Of course, this setup also means that Avengers: Doomsday ideally needs to dedicate more of its time towards establishing just how powerful and how dangerous Doctor Doom is, particularly for those who are less familiar with the character at this point in time. Given Doomsday's extensive cast list, the logical way the movie seems set to do so is by defeating plenty of heroes along the way, though perhaps one of the best for him to take on is currently not confirmed for the film.

That said, given the latest MCU updates around this character, they would be one of several figures that would make most sense for Doctor Doom to take on and defeat early on in Avengers: Doomsday to quickly and clearly communicate his threat level - and would have an extra appeal of sorts since this would allow Doom's Avengers movie story to parallel Thanos' own in the prior MCU Saga.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day's Hulk Changes Mean Doctor Doom Has A Perfect Excuse To Repeat Thanos' Infinity War Intro Scene

Spider-Man vs Savage Hulk in Brand New Day Trailer #2

The Hulk's story has finally gotten a new chapter thanks to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which saw Bruce Banner transform into the Savage Hulk form once more after years of this iteration of the Hulk remaining off-screen. This meant audiences got to once again watch the Hulk demonstrate his berserker-like rage and impulsive behavior, as is evidenced by the character trying to fight Spider-Man for a good period of time before realizing the hero isn't trying to actually harm him.

With this in mind - and given Doctor Doom's power level has yet to be properly shown in the MCU, which is key for viewers who aren't aware of how imposing the comic character is - it would make all the more sense for Doom to take a leaf out of Thanos' book in Avengers: Infinity War's opening, and to defeat the green giant in Avengers: Doomsday in the early portion of the film to establish how strong he is.

Pitting villains like Thanos against the Hulk works well to show them as colossal threats, since audiences know Hulk is one of Marvel's strongest heroes. However, pitting them against Savage Hulk also works uniquely well since the rage of the character often means his enemy only needs a tactical or strategy advance to best him, meaning Doom could defeat the Hulk without it downplaying how strong the hero himself is.

Doctor Doom Defeating Thor & The Hulk Would Be A Solid Way To Set Up His MCU Power Level

Mark Ruffalo as Hulk snarling in Avengers Infinity War

Avengers: Doomsday's trailers have already teased that Thor will be facing off against Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday - and has also teased that it won't go well, given Victor Von Doom is able to withstand an intense attack from Thor without looking so much as slightly impacted by this onslaught.

With this in mind, having the two most conventionally powerful members of the original Avengers roster - that being Thor and the Hulk- be defeated by Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday would be a strong way to establish Doctor Doom as a threat in this early chapter, much in the way that Thanos defeated Thor and Hulk to establish his combat proficiency in Avengers: Infinity War.

With the Hulk not being a currently confirmed part of Avengers: Doomsday's cast, though, we'll have to see what happens next for the jolly green berserker in the next chapters of the MCU, and whether his immense strength is used to help establish the power balance of the franchise and its heroes and villains once again.
