‘This Summer Will Be Different’: Malin Akerman, Megan Follows & Two More Join Cast Of Netflix Carley Fortune Adaptation

Netflix is rounding out the cast of This Summer Will Be Different, its series adaptation of Carley Fortune’s best-selling novel, with some familiar faces and a touch of Anne of Green Gables, which inspired the book.

Joining the ensemble are Malin Akerman (The Hunting Wives, Billions) as “Aunt Stacy”, Megan Follows (Buried in Barstow) as “Cheryl”, Nadine Bhabha (Heated Rivalry, Slo Pitch) as “Farah”, and Matias Lucas (The Order) as “Carter” in the Prince Edward Island-set contemporary romance.

The cast also includes Jordan Rodrigues as Miles Lam, Jude Wilson as Zach, Natalie Brown as Christine, James Tupper as Ken, Tom Barnett as Peter and Celia Owen as Joy.

Based on Fortune’s third novel, which published May 7, 2024, This Summer Will Be Different stretches across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island where Lucy “Bee” Ashby (Sophie Nélisse) visits with her best friend Bridget (Francesca Reale). Lucy has feelings for Bridget’s brother Felix (Roby Attal), the one person she’s forbidden from falling for.

Dane Clark (Suze, One More Time) and Linsey Stewart (Workin’ Moms, North of North) created the series and serve as showrunners. Clark and Stewart also executive produce alongside Carley Fortune (Every Summer After, Our Perfect Storm), and Jennifer Kawaja (Sort Of, Wayward), Elise Cousineau (Cardinal, Small Achievable Goals) and Samantha Levine for Sphere Media.

The show has wrapped filming on Prince Edward Island and is now filming in Toronto. This Summer Will Be Different joins Netflix’s growing Canadian slate including North of North, Wayward, Who Killed the Montreal Expos?, BELOW and The Granville Girls.

Akerman was most recently seen in the Netflix series The Hunting Wives playing “Margo Banks”. Season 2 of the series comes out November 26. Follows is best known for her starring role as “Anne Shirley” in Anne of Green Gables, and she also recently appeared in the first season of Little House on the Prairie as Laura (Alice Halsey) and Mary’s (Skywalker Hughes) grandmother.
