Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, episode 8.Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 has broken new ground for the Monsterverse with its time travel storyline, but the franchise's new episode is completely focused on the monster action that fans have been asking for. In Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, episode 7, Wyatt Russell's young Lee Shaw and Kurt Russell's old version of the character interacted through the radio, leading to changes to the timeline.
The young Lee wrestled with the idea of rescuing Keiko from the Axis Mundi, but his older self persuaded him not to do it, as it could completely rewrite the presence as it stands. That said, Lee still made changes to the timeline of the Monsterverse, as he planted a tracking device on Titan X that allowed his old self and Dr. Suzuki to track the kaiju.
Additionally, Cate and Keiko's research into the former's connection to Titan X yielded results. The duo found out that the Titan was not actually a danger to anyone, and it was not lost after all. Instead, it seemed like the kaiju had a specific goal in mind. Well, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, episode 8, revealed exactly what that was.
Titan X’s True Goal Explained
Titan X really did have a major goal in Northern Australia, as the kaiju landed on the desert where its huge egg was waiting. As such, the creature never intended to attack anyone, always moving according to its old patterns, which Billy figured out in the past, with the ultimate goal of coming to its nest. A key dynamic was also explored.
Aside from the reveal that Titan X is a mother, when the kaiju finds her nest with the egg, it is revealed that the scarabs built it for her offspring. The scarabs have an interesting relationship with the monster, remaining attached to Titan X, who protects them, and in turn, they are there to care for her offspring. In episode 8, danger comes for the egg.

The original 1954 Godzilla film was directed by a visionary Japanese filmmaker and served as an allegory for the horrors of nuclear weapons. Who directed the original Godzilla?
AAkira Kurosawa BIshiro Honda CHayao Miyazaki DTakashi Shimura

✗ Destroyed! The answer is Ishiro Honda. Kurosawa directed Seven Samurai, Miyazaki is the anime legend behind Studio Ghibli, and Shimura was an actor who appeared in the original film. Honda’s vision turned nuclear fear into cinema’s greatest monster.

King of the Monsters — or trampled underfoot?
↻ RISE AGAIN
As he had stated in prior episodes, Kurt Russell's Lee Shaw succeeds in his plan to lure Godzilla to Australia and have it fight Titan X. The result is the biggest kaiju fight of Monarch season 2 so far. Near the end of the episode, Godzilla even kills Cliff Curtis' Jason Trissop with its signature atomic breath.
With the confusion generated by the two kaijus clashing, Apex is able to get away with Titan X's egg. Given how protective Titan X was of its offspring and how the kaiju has been trying to get to the egg since it woke up at the start of season 2, Titan X is not going to let it go easily. Lee might have just created exactly what he feared — an angry and destructive Titan X.
What Will Apex Do With Titan X’s Egg?
Image courtesy of Apple TVNothing in episode 8 outright states what Apex has planned for Titan X's egg. That said, the organization tried to control the kaiju using Corah's code earlier in the season. As such, it stands to reason that by nabbing Titan X's egg, they could use it as bait to try to control the creature again.
Additionally, Apex had some success when controlling small creatures. If they were to hatch the egg and try to use Corah's upgraded code to take over the young beast's mind before it grew to be as big as its mother, then Apex would be more likely to succeed. In the end, the company's ultimate goal remains being able to control Titans, and the egg gives it alternatives for accomplishing that.
Monarch Season 2’s Major Death Callback Explained
There is no doubt that the biggest death in Monarch season 2 is that of Hiroshi, played by Takehiro Hira. It happened back in episode 5, "Furusato." When Cate became entranced by Titan X's call while looking at the kaiju, Hiroshi saved her from a falling tentacle, but not before being gravely injured. He died in his mother's arms, with his daughter by his side.
Episode 8 brings along a similar moment, though with no tears being shed this time. Cate once again decides to get near Titan X, standing right in front of the beast. However, with Apex not trying to control the kaiju this time, Titan X does not have any falling limbs or surprise attacks that put Cate in harm's way. Instead, they share a moment, which could lead to a deeper connection.
What Is Godzilla Going To Do Next?
Finally, episode 8 is the big one for those who have been waiting for Godzilla to show up. The Titan is drawn by Suzuki's Titan Phone, with Lee's plan working. Upon arriving in Australia, the King of the Monsters proceeds to fight with Titan X. However, it is clear during the struggle that Titan X was only worried about her egg's safety and was not really fighting back, only defending herself.
At the end of the episode, Titan X desperately rushes after her egg as Apex flies away with it, all with Godzilla in tow. After waiting so long for Godzilla to play a role in the story, the Titan should be back in episode 8, not letting Titan X escape its sight.
Godzilla is very strict about his territory, so he should not rest until Titan X travels back through the Axis Mundi in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2.
