Tony Blackburn, 83, reveals he's become a grandfather for a third time after his daughter gave birth to her first child

Tony Blackburn has revealed he has become a grandfather for the third time after his daughter Victoria recently welcomed her first child.

The disc jockey, 83, detailed their special bond as he said he'd 'never had a feeling like it with a baby' when he met his granddaughter Eloise for the first time.

Tony became a father to Victoria, now 30, aged 53 and believes there are benefits to being a parent later in life because you've 'lived a bit and are more mature'.

The presenter, who said he is 'very close' to his daughter today, detailed how he felt after the arrival of Eloise in an interview with the Sunday Times Magazine.

Tony said: 'We see each other all the time, even more now that she has recently given birth to her first daughter, Eloise.

'At the hospital I cradled the baby in my arms, looked into her eyes and just thought,"Oh yes, I like you." I've never had a feeling with a baby quite like that before. I adore her.'

Tony's daughter also appeared in the interview where she discussed the benefits of having an older father as a child.

'I think I was lucky because when I came along Dad was older and very present in my life. He was on the radio every morning, on Capital Gold's breakfast show, which meant he was around when I came home,' she said.

Tony previously revealed his daughter turned down his offer to DJ at her wedding when she got married – telling him it's because he is too 'cheesy'.

Tony said Victoria told him: 'That's very lovely of you Dad, but we don't want any cheese at the wedding!'

He told his listeners on Radio 2's Sounds of the 60s show: 'Honestly, how hurtful' – adding that he had offered her a discount. Tony was the first DJ on Radio 1 in 1967 and has two lifetime achievement awards from the Radio Academy.

But he has always been renowned for corny jokes. Paul Whitehouse's comically dim DJ character Dave Nice (half of Smashie and Nicey) was said to be based on him.

Tony said Victoria, his daughter with his second wife Debbie, has declined his suggestion to play the music when she marries fiancé Chris Howard.

He told listeners: 'My daughter is getting married next June. Actually Victoria is planning her wedding at this moment. The other day she was talking about a disco and I said, 'I'll do the disco for you… at a reduced rate obviously.''

He laughed at being rebuffed – as he has previously said he has no regrets about his perceived cringiness, adding: 'I'm an entertainer, I've got to entertain. So what if people say I'm cheesy? Nothing wrong with that.'

Tony also has a son, advertising executive Simon, 50, by his first wife, actress Tessa Wyatt.

When Tessa, star of sitcom Robin's Nest, ended that marriage in 1977 after five years following his alleged affair with a neighbour, Tony was so heartbroken he played Chicago's If You Leave Me Now repeatedly on Radio 1 and begged for her to return. He calls this his 'one big broadcasting mistake'.

Last year, Tessa hit back at claims she cheated on Tony with their neighbour's husband – at the same time the BBC DJ was having an affair with the man's wife – saying suggestions of a love square are 'not true'.

Tessa, who was 29 when she wed the popular broadcaster, is understood to have only found out about Tony's infidelity when she read his autobiography, published in 1985.

Four decades on, the 78-year-old actress said she was surprised to hear Tony claiming he was having an affair with his neighbour Margo Webb at the same time that Margo's husband Roger was allegedly being unfaithful with Tessa.

Speaking to the Rosebud podcast with Gyles Brandreth, who asked if he had stopped 'playing the field' after he was married, Tony admitted: 'Yes I did. Although we both had affairs.'

He said: 'She didn't know I was having an affair with the next door neighbour, and then she was having an affair with her [the neighbour's] husband.'

But Tessa has disputed her ex-husband's version of events, adding she had never cheated during their five-year marriage.

Speaking to The Telegraph from her home in south West London, Tessa said: 'That's not true. I've never had any affairs. He may say that, but it's just not true.'

Tony and Tessa married in 1972 and the following year welcomed a son together, Simon, before their marriage ultimately ended in 1977.
