The long-awaited release of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is finally here, and despite achieving critical acclaim for its gameplay and story enhancements, it's been met with a wave of backlash over its current launch state. While most of the complaints can be boiled down to players furious over Black Flag Resynced including day one DLC purchases that add cosmetics, weapons, or extra resources, the biggest issue left players more baffled than anything else.

Black Flag Resynced itself runs incredibly smooth on both consoles and PC with the right settings, but its most glaring drawback is that the cutscenes are locked at a dismal 30FPS during cutscenes for many players. Thankfully, this issue is far from an intended feature, as Ubisoft has put out a temporary workaround that I wish I knew before playing Black Flag Resynced for the first time.

As announced on the official Assassin's Creed X account, the 30FPS during cutscenes actually results from a bug that occurs when using certain high-level visual settings. For now, Assassin's Creed recommends players encountering the issue on PC to swap to one of the default visual presets, and avoid changing Raytracing, BVH quality, or Terrain Quality to Ultra.

While it's certainly relieving to know that Ubisoft never intended to lock the cutscenes of Black Flag Resynced to a 30FPS, the fact remains that many players already had to experience the jarring effect of going from high frame rates depending on their hardware, to a mere fraction of what their system is capable of.

It isn't just cutscenes that have been drawing concern either, as a smaller ratio of players have reported stuttering, audio issues, and other visual bugs during gameplay and naval combat as well. While not nearly as widespread as the cutscene issue, the complaints haven't helped Black Flag Resynced's concerningly low review scores on Steam, which have already been tanking as a result of Ubisoft's microtransactions and forced inclusion of content from Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Although there's no word yet on when Ubisoft plans to release an official fix for the cutscene bug and other prevalent issues players have reported to be facing in Black Flag Resynced, it's good to know there are at least some workarounds to let players enjoy the full experience until a permanent hotfix is applied to the game.

Regardless of the criticisms, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is already well on its way to becoming a smashing success for the studio in the wake of the supposedly underperforming Assassin's Creed Shadows, as the pirate-themed adventure has already sold two million copies only a day after release, which is half the time as its predecessor took for the same milestone.
