What to Know About Ken Urker: His Life, Death & Gypsy Rose Blanchard
Gypsy Rose Blanchard Shared Ken Urker Relationship Update Before Death
Gypsy Rose Blanchard is navigating life after a devastating loss.
As she confirmed Oct. 1, Ken Urker, her onetime fiancé and father of her 21-month-old daughter Aurora, was found dead in his Louisiana home that afternoon, his 34th birthday.
While an official cause of death has yet to be revealed, a report from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office obtained by E! News includes an incident code for an overdose.
"I don’t know if it was intentional or not," Blanchard told People after Urker's death. "He was not in a good state of mind lately."
Officers noted in the report that they responded to a welfare call after Urker did not answer his door or phone. After authorities entered the residence, the report continued, they saw him lying on his back in his bed and they “located paraphernalia (syringes and spoon) in the bathroom next to a brown powdery substance."
"Deputies located a syringe and a handgun on the nightstand next to the bed," the report added. "Mr. Urker was found lying on the bed on his back, cold to the touch, and appeared to have been there for an extended period of time. His face and his arms were blue. He had a paper towel placed on his left arm with what appeared to be blotches of blood on the paper towel.”
Officers also said in the report that the “handgun was holstered on the nightstand, laying next to two shot glasses and a syringe." The sheriff’s office told E! News "this case remains under investigation" and that they "have discovered no signs of foul play."
While the coroner’s office confirmed an autopsy has been conducted, they noted "there is no definitive cause of death" at this time as "the case remains pending completion of toxicology testing."

Who Was Ken Urker?
Before Kenan “Ken” Urker began his relationship with Blanchard nearly a decade ago, he lived a private life in Texas. But he was thrust in the public eye in 2019 when fans first learned of his romance with Blanchard, then serving her prison sentence for her role in the 2015 murder of her mom Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard.
Over the years, Urker held a variety of positions—from working as a bartender to appearing on the reality series Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup.
Remembering Urker as an "amazing father and a man who was deeply loved," Blanchard noted on Instagram Oct. 2 that “he will forever be my soulmate and my red string, a connection that time, distance and even death can never erase."
How Did Ken Urker Meet Gypsy Rose Blanchard?
The two first connected in 2017, the year after Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for acting with ex-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to kill her mother. Urker had seen the 2017 documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest about the case—including Blanchard’s testimony that her mom abused her for years by making her receive medical treatments she didn’t need—and wrote Blanchard a letter.
"I wrote him back and pretty soon we just started writing on a weekly basis," she explained to E! News in 2019. "We became fast friends."
Soon after, she continued, they began talking on the phone for hours "like I had known him my whole life." Urker then came to meet Blanchard in-person. And “within the first 30 minutes,” she continued, "he leaned over and gave me the most wonderful kiss of my whole life."
When Did Ken Urker and Gypsy Rose Blanchard Get Engaged, Break Up and Get Back Together?
Urker proposed to Blanchard in October 2018, but they shielded their romance from the public until the spring of 2019. While they broke up and got back together later that year, they split again. Following that breakup, Blanchard connected with Ryan Anderson in 2020. A year after they married, Blanchard was released from prison in December 2023. But three months later, Blanchard announced their split, filing for divorce in April 2024.
“I ended the marriage, filed for divorce and then that’s when Ken and I reconnected—after the fact—as friends,” Blanchard explained on Nick Viall’s The Viall Files in October 2024. “We had a weekend together to see, ‘Where are we with this?’ It was our first time actually having any outside-of-prison time, and we realized that that flame, that love is still there.”
A month later, she continued, Urker came back to visit and “that’s essentially the weekend that we got pregnant.” The couple announced they were expecting a baby in July 2024. And that December, Blanchard gave birth to daughter Aurora Raina, whose middle name is the same as Urker’s mother Raina Williams.
As for where their relationship stood before Urker’s death, Blanchard noted in a tribute after his passing that he will always be her “greatest love story.” However, his sister Autumn told a different version of events, saying in a TikTok Live reshared by TMZ that the pair were not together at the time of his death.
What Else Has Gypsy Rose Blanchard Said About Ken Urker’s Death?
After Urker died, Blanchard told People, "I’m in disbelief. I can’t think. I’ve screamed until my throat burns."
She also detailed what life in the public eye had been like for him, including how he was targeted online.
“Ken endured an unimaginable level of public scrutiny and relentless cyberbullying across social media platforms, including TikTok and Reddit,” she wrote on Instagram. “The cruelty directed toward him was something no human being should have to endure. I believe the tremendous weight of that scrutiny and harassment had a profound impact on him, and I hope his passing serves as a reminder that there is a real person behind every screen, every headline, and ever comment.”
Blanchard then vowed to keep Urker’s memory alive for their daughter.
"Above all, Ken loved our daughter: Aurora," she added. “She is a beautiful reflection of his enduring spirit, and through her, a part of him will always remain with us. I will make sure she grows up knowing how deeply her father loved her and who he was beyond what strangers on the internet chose to say about him. He will be deeply missed, forever loved and never forgotten.”
