Where to find the map in Gothic 1 Remake

To unlock the world map in Gothic 1 Remake, you must find the mapmaker at the Old Camp. Locating the map vendor, however, isn't the only problem; you must also persuade him to give you a discount, or pay a hefty sum of ore nuggets. As always in Gothic 1 Remake, threatening violence is also an option.

How to get a map in Gothic 1 Remake

To obtain a world map in Gothic 1 Remake, you can purchase one from mapmaker Graham at the Old Camp. To find Graham, enter the Old Camp through the north gate, which is the gate closest to your original spawn point, just behind the stone bridge.

As soon as you've entered the Old Camp, turn right. Graham is usually near the cooking pot or inside his hut (the second building from the right), though he occasionally goes for a walk through the camp. If Baal Taran is holding a speech, Graham may be among the listeners.

The Map of the Colony costs around 34 ore, though the price may go up if you bought other items previously. Graham also sells a Map of the Old Camp, which costs around 35 ore. If you don't have enough ore, you can complete side quests, sell items you don't need, loot chests, or have a chat with Fingers about lockpicking and pickpocketing — stealing is a good way to get rich quickly.

Before you purchase the map, beware that its features are quite limited. The map will show your position plus a general outline of the world, including swaths of forest, rivers, and settlements, but they won't be named. Though there are a few exceptions, Gothic 1 Remake doesn't use quest markers. Since the map isn't that useful, you might as well spend your ore on something else.

If you're willing to wait a while, there's a way to obtain the map at a discount or for free. First, you must make some progress with the "Admission to the Old Camp" and "Casting Shadows" quests by convincing several influential people to vouch for you, such as Fingers, Scatty, or Dexter. This will eventually unlock the "Am I ready for that test of yours?" line while speaking to Diego, leading to the "Test of Faith" quest. Diego is usually near the campfire behind the Old Camp's north gate.

As Diego wants you to visit the Old Mine, he'll tell you to get a map from Graham. Mention that Diego sent you, and Graham will sell you the map for 20 ore nuggets. Alternatively, you can threaten Graham by choosing the "I'm not paying" line; he'll give you the map for free, but he won't like you anymore.
