Xbox X25 New Console Officially Announced, But Gamers Are Split

In case you missed all of the excitement on Sunday, Xbox held their major presentation as part of Summer Games Fest, and it really did feel a bit like a small return to the halcyon days of E3. This show, in particular, felt more important than previous iterations for the gaming giant, as it really gave us a chance to see what new CEO Asha Sharma has planned for the brand moving forward.

As well as a commitment to exclusives and the reveal of more gameplay for some huge upcoming titles, they also confirmed the release of the X25, a special, limited edition version of the Series X. Clad in the iconic transparent green case of old, it does look pretty incredible, but the realities of today's console market have fans fearing they may not be able to get in on the fun.

Over on Reddit, fans have been gathering to discuss the announcement of the new console. Though almost everyone agrees that they have absolutely nailed it on the design, the price of consoles right now is astronomical thanks to the inflated component market caused by impossibly greedy AI data centers.

We haven't had official confirmation on the price yet, but there are plenty of folks out there who are convinced it won't be affordable when it drops in November.

"My launch model is still going strong. If they didn't jack up the price of the console I'd be trading it in for this version... But I just can't justify paying several hundred more for something that's just aesthetic. It is beautiful though," one comment read.

While another added, "I've not bought a Xbox since the first Xbox One. I really would like to get this, but I'm worried scalpers will just destroy that chance."

Others are planning on fronting up the money for it regardless, saying, "I've been debating getting a console for a while now since I switched to Linux and can't play some things (and also GTA VI is coming out). This might be the one I get.

"I wanted a Series X before GTA VI came out, but it didn’t make sense for me to have a Series S and X, so I just got a PS5 instead. Now, if I can, I’m going to try and get this," another said.

It's worth noting that, if you do want to get in on the fun but don't want to commit to the full console, there will be the opportunity to buy the matching controller separately. It has certainly been a strong start in the big Xbox job for Sharma as well, so let's hope they can keep that momentum up heading into the colder months of the year.
