Yellowjackets season 4 has received an important update.
It was previously confirmed that season 4 will be the end of the hit series. The show's timelines alternate between the late 1990s, when the teenage survivors are stranded in the wilderness after their soccer team's plane crash, and the adult survivors 25 years later as they grapple with ongoing trauma. Yellowjackets season 3 ends with teenage Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) calling the outside world for rescue, while the remaining adults begin to conspire against Shauna (Melanie Lynskey).
On Instagram, Lynskey shared that Yellowjackets season 4 filming is "nearly at the finish line!!!" This update is part of a larger post about a party thrown for the cast and crew "at the end of two incredibly long and tough weeks, including night shoots." Multiple images feature Lynskey alongside Sophie Nélisse, who plays the teenage version of Shauna, and in the comments wrote "YOU ARE SO LOVED. We adore you. Thank you for being such a leader on set. The most generous and caring human being there is." Check out the post below:
While production hasn't officially wrapped yet on Yellowjackets season 4, it shouldn't be too far off now given Lynskey's update about almost being at the finish line. The particularly grueling two-week shoot alluded to in the post comes after months of filming, which began earlier this year in February.
With filming set to wrap soon, a late 2026 release is possible, although an early 2027 debut seems more likely. The latter would be consistent with the bi-annual release schedule of previous seasons, as season 1 began in 2021, followed by season 2 in 2023, and season 3 in 2025. Both seasons 2 and 3 returned in the first half of the year as well.
As a mystery box show, there are many questions Yellowjackets season 4 needs to answer, including mysteries about the wilderness and its impact on the survivors that were set up as early as season 1. The last season is also poised to finally explore the immediate aftermath of the survivors being rescued, along with revealing the fates of characters who have never appeared in the present-day timeline.
Other than Shauna, the only known wilderness survivors still alive in the 2020s timeline are Misty (Christina Ricci), Taissa (Tawny Cypress), and Melissa (Hilary Swank). Since all previous Yellowjackets seasons have introduced additional adult survivors, though, it is possible that one or more will surface once again. Shauna's husband, Jeff (Warren Kole), their daughter, Callie (Sarah Desjardins), and Misty's ex-boyfriend, Walter (Elijah Wood), are also still alive in this timeline.
In the past, teenage Natalie and Shauna are still in the wilderness with Misty (Samantha Hanratty), Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown), Van (Liv Hewson), Lottie (Courtney Eaton), Travis (Kevin Alves), Akilah (Nia Sondaya), Melissa (Jenna Burgess), and Hannah (Ashley Sutton), the last of whom is a frog scientist who had the misfortune to cross paths with the group in season 3. As has been the case with Jackie (Ella Purnell) in seasons 2 and 3, dead characters can also return to the series via nightmares and visions.
1980s icon Molly Ringwald joins the Yellowjackets season 4 cast to play Van's mother, Victora Palmer. Academy Award nominee June Squibb has also been added to the cast, although her role remains under wraps.
Yellowjackets seasons 1-3 are streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime.
