All 7 Upcoming Matt Damon Movies

Matt Damon is always busy making new movies, occupying different roles for various productions that give him an exciting upcoming slate of projects. He's not only regularly starring in major releases in theaters and on streaming, but Damon is also constantly adding more to his plate by producing through his and Ben Affleck's production company, Artists Equity, and occasionally writing scripts, too.

He's only getting busier after an incredibly successful 2026. He produced and starred in The Rip, which became a streaming hit for Netflix. Damon took the lead role in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, giving him the biggest box office hit of his career and a chance to win his first acting Oscar. He also produced Netflix's thriller, Animals, which was directed by and stars Affleck.

Rather than sit back and enjoy some time off, Damon is already hard at work on his next starring vehicle. He also has multiple high-profile movies in active development that will soon occupy the bulk of his schedule as he returns to some of his most iconic roles. As if that is not enough, Artists Equity's slate increases his workload as a producer.

While all of these movies and TV shows are in the works, they aren't all confirmed to come out in the near future, if at all, as some have been stuck in development hell for years. That could make the list of Matt Damon's upcoming projects he's actually focused on making much smaller.

Audiences will get to see Damon back in action on the big screen in 2027. He is in the middle of filming a new sci-fi action comedy for Universal directed by the Oscar-winning duo behind Everything Everywhere All At Once, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. Plot details have been kept under wraps, but set photos show Damon in a Power Rangers-style suit.

The movie does not have a title, but Universal has confirmed a November 19, 2027, release date. Given the talent involved, Damon and The Daniels' sci-fi movie will be a huge event. It will be his first movie since The Odyssey and possibly winning the Best Actor Oscar in 2027.

6 Bourne 6

Damon is attached to star in another Bourne movie. It's been a decade since he last played Jason Bourne, but Universal is keen to get him back as the skilled killer. The sixth entry in the action franchise is in development, with director Edward Berger working on finalizing the script and securing Damon's involvement.

Bourne 6 does not have a release date at this stage, but it figures to be one of the first movies Damon makes after the Daniels' event film. The actor has already questioned how much longer he can play this type of action-heavy role. Since he isn't getting any younger, the sooner he comes back, the better. Rumors have suggested Damon's The Odyssey co-star Zendaya will join the franchise, possibly as his successor.

5 Ocean's 14

The cast of Ocean's Eleven

Another familiar role Damon will return to after 2026 is Linus Caldwell from the Ocean's franchise. The original cast of the heist series has mulled coming back several times since 2007's Ocean's Thirteen, but a sequel never came to fruition. That is changing, as George Clooney and Brad Pitt have confirmed that Ocean's 14's script is done and that Damon and Julia Roberts are among the returning cast members.

Ocean's 14 does not yet have a release date. Considering production has not yet begun and an Ocean's prequel starring Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie is coming in 2027, Damon won't be back as Linus until 2028 at the earliest.

Between this and Bourne 6, Damon will give audiences more of the characters they know and love, but expect him to also work in some more fresh stories and roles as he fills out his post-The Odyssey slate. However, those two films and the Daniels' movie are the only acting roles confirmed to be on the actor's docket as of this writing.

4 Turbulence: The Greatest Mind In Formula One

Damon is serving as an executive producer on an upcoming documentary, Turbulence: The Greatest Mind in Formula One. The doc focuses on race car designer Adrian Newey as he leaves Red Bull to design a new Formula One car for Aston Martin's racing team.

Damon will produce Turbulence for Arists Equity alongside Affleck and Kyle Wheeler. The Whisper Group, Mark Stewart Productions, Aston Martin Aramco, and F1 are also involved as producers. The doc was announced in 2025 and will be directed by Patrick Mark and Michael Tolajian. No release date is set.

3 Shot In The Dark

One of the newest producing roles Damon has taken on is for Shot in the Dark, another sports documentary. The doc follows the first U.S. Paralympic Blind Soccer team on its journey to get to the 2028 Paralympic Games. The project was announced in July 2026, with Damon issuing a statement about his and Artists Equity's involvement:

What drew us to Shot in the Dark was not only our absolute awe of the sport, but the extraordinary athletes themselves. The skill, trust, and courage it takes to compete at this level is something most of us can barely imagine. Telling stories like this is exactly why Artists Equity exists, and we’re thrilled to partner with UltraBoom, Hidden Content, and Icki Eneo Arlo to bring it to the screen.

Damon, Affleck, and Wheeler are producing through Artists Equity. As mentioned by him, they are joined by UltraBoom Media, Hidden Content, and Robert Pattinson's Icki Eneo Arlo. Shot in the Dark is directed by Jay Shapiro and Adam Donald. No release date is set, but the doc can't be completed until the team's 2028 Paralympic Games journey is over, so this one may take a few more years to come out.

2 Free Byrd

Dwayne Johnson-3

Dwayne Johnson is teaming up with Damon and Affleck's Artists Equity for a new action drama, Free Byrd. The Rock will star as a Las Vegas motorcycle stuntman who hides his dementia diagnosis so he can do one last jump. Following the movie's announcement in July 2026, Damon and Affleck shared their excitement for the project in a shared statement:

This is a project that all of us at the company have connected with personally. Greg is one of the most exciting writer-directors working today, and Dwayne is an extraordinary talent and person. We are extremely excited that they have chosen to make this with us and very much look forward to sharing the finished film with audiences.

Damon and Affleck will produce the feature, which will be directed by Train Dreams' Greg Kwedar. Fifth Season joins Artist Equity as a producing partner, as does Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions and Kwedar's Ethos. Free Byrd is currently in pre-production.

1 Flash Before The Bang

Flash Before The Bang is another upcoming movie that Damon is tied to. Its a sports drama directed by Jevon Whetter about a deaf track and field team in the 1980s. The movie was originally announced in 2021 with CODA's eventual Oscar-winning star Troy Kotsur attached to star, with Damon and Affleck attached as producers through their old banner, Pearl Street.

Filming took place in 2024 with Jessica Alba, Russell Harvard, Daniel Durant, Alaqua Cox, and Grace Byers among the ensemble cast. It's unclear if Damon has remained involved after shuttering Pearl Street to start Artists Equity, but he was still linked to the project in 2023, which was after launching the new production company.

Apostle Paul: A movie about Paul the Apostle starring Hugh Jackman. The project was announced in 2015 and set up at Warner Bros. with Damon attached to produce under Pearl Street. No updates ever came, making it unlikely it ever sees the light of day now after multiple WB mergers and Damon and Affleck shuttering Pearl Street to start Artists Equity.

Witness For The Prosecution: An Agatha Christie adaptation starring and directed by Affleck. Damon was announced as a producer upon the film's development beginning in 2016 at Fox. Never made any progress, with no updates coming after Fox's merger with Disney.

Thirst: An HBO original movie about the global water crisis. It was announced in 2015 with Damon as an executive producer. Thirst has yet to make it into production and likely never will.

Green Beret's Guide To Surviving The Apocalypse: A Netflix series created by Daril Fannin and Shawn Vance, where the latter plays a version of himself in different apocalyptic scenarios. The show was announced in 2017 with Matt Damon onboard as a producer. Some filming did take place, but Netflix never released the series.
