Sadly, it isn’t the dawn of a new Tomb Raider era quite yet. We were meant to get the latest remake of Tomb Raider 1, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, sometime this year, but it has since been delayed to February 2027, consequently pushing Tomb Raider: Catalyst to 2028. Regardless, if nothing else, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is proof that the prequel trilogy will be profoundly influential in redefining Lara Croft for this brand-new remake timeline.
This is assuming that Crystal Dynamics, Flying Wild Hog, and Amazon’s plans are to remake classic games in the franchise while simultaneously releasing original mainline entries, anyway, not unlike the modern Resident Evil release formula. Now, fans have another opportunity to celebrate one of the most beloved installments in the prequel trilogy for a new special edition treat.
Per Twitter/X, Limited Run Games has unveiled a physical Collector’s edition for Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration. Exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, this Collector’s edition is available to pre-order now until November 15, and includes:
- Physical, Standard edition game for Nintendo Switch 2 with steelcase
- Trinity patch
- Light-up Divine Source replica desk ornament
For fans who might be confused as to what the “20 Year Celebration” in question is in reference to, Rise of the Tomb Raider released an edition called Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration that includes all base game, Season Pass, and bonus content in 2016, 20 years after the launch of the first game in the franchise. Anyone who’s unfamiliar with Rise of the Tomb Raider and its DLC hopefully won’t conflate the 20 Year Celebration edition with this Collector’s edition because while the 20 Year Celebration itself is not new, Limited Run’s Collector’s edition is.
This Collector’s edition is priced at $140.99 and is currently estimated to ship between August 1, 2027, and October 31, 2027, meaning you may be in for a considerable wait. Of course, there may be no better way to tide yourself over for Tomb Raider: Catalyst than by revisiting Tomb Raider’s Survivor prequel trilogy after having played Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis earlier in 2027.
The future of the franchise is brighter than ever, and the foundation on which this upcoming remake is being built should imbue it with a lot more rich lore and continuity than the original Tomb Raider 1 ever had as a cold introduction to Lara as a tomb-raiding character. Plus, it’s anyone’s guess which Tomb Raider game might receive a special edition like this from Limited Run next. In the meantime, fans who can’t wait to play Rise of the Tomb Raider on Switch 2 can already do so via Aspyr’s port.
