Avatar: The Last Airbender fans are having a great year so far, with the second season of the live-action Netflix series recently releasing and the upcoming launch of the Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender film finally getting its debut on Paramount+. Further, fans are looking forward to the official The Legend of Korra sequel, Avatar: Seven Havens, slated for a 2027 release.
Beyond film and television, however, Avatar is also making headlines with several new announcements in gaming, though it's not all good news. Sadly, a highly anticipated Avatar RPG from Paramount Skydance was officially canned earlier this year, which came as a shock considering it was lauded as being the "biggest video game in franchise history."
However, there's plenty of good news on the Avatar gaming front as well, with the 2026 release of Voyage of the Unity set to drop in September, an upcoming expansion for the acclaimed Avatar Legends TTRPG. Perhaps the most exciting upcoming release for the franchise, though, is Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, which officially drops later this month on July 23, 2026 (via Steam).

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is an officially licensed 2D fighter that brings together heroes and villains from both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra in a competitive, tag-team fighting game. Developed by Gameplay Group International and published by PM Studios in collaboration with Skydance Games, the game entails fast-paced one-on-one battles featuring hand-drawn animations inspired by the animated series.
Players can master each fighter's unique bending style, chain together elemental combos, and call on support characters during matches while competing in Story, Arcade, Training, Ranked, Casual, and online lobby modes. Rollback netcode and full cross-play are included to provide a smooth online experience across every platform.
"Rollback netcode" is an online multiplayer system that simulates gameplay instantly without waiting for network data and makes for a more streamlined and seamless PvP experience.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is scheduled to launch on Thursday, July 23, after being delayed three weeks from its original July 2 release date. According to the developers, the extra time is being used to polish the experience while also adding brand-new content that wasn't originally part of the launch plan. Players who already pre-ordered received access to the closed beta earlier this month, along with exclusive cosmetic bonuses including the Samurai Appa support skin and alternate character colors.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will be available on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X/S, Nintendo Switch & Switch 2, and PC via Steam. The Standard Edition is priced at $29.99 USD, while the Digital Deluxe Edition costs $49.99 and includes the Year 1 Pass, a digital artbook, and the official soundtrack. At launch, the base roster features 12 playable fighters, with additional characters planned as post-launch DLC through the Year 1 Pass, making it easily one of the biggest Avatar game releases in years.
