Daisy May Cooper has revealed she was trolled and shamed after losing 10 stone and panicked that her change in appearance would result in her getting fewer roles.

The This Country star, 40, dropped from a dress size 24 to a size 10 by following the ultra low-carb Keto diet.

And while the healthy choice to shed the pounds brought a positive impact on her daily life, it also resulted in a host of mean-spirited comments online.

Speaking in a new interview, she said she no longer owns a phone due to the negativity and that her PA runs her Instagram account.

Daisy said: 'People are so f***ing horrible and mean and say such horrible things, I just can't even go near it [her phone].'

She added that the comments which hurt the most were when people told her she wasn't funny anymore because of her new appearance.

Daisy told The Independent: 'That made me really panic actually. I thought, "F***. Is that going to affect me casting-wise?" Will I be scratched off people's lists when they go, "She can't be the funny big one"? It's so mad that as women we even have to think about that.'

'It is women and it's still a thing. There's also that thing where people are just shaming you for wanting to feel better and be healthy.'

She added that when she was 'at her worst' she was a size 24 and would get chest pains and be out of breath just from walking up stairs.

The star has been on a dramatic weight loss journey over the last few years to improve her health.

She at first followed Keto, the ultra low-carb diet, but later admitted that although it worked, she 'would not recommend it'.

The TV personality told the Daily Mail she developed kidney stones, and explained: 'Because all I was eating was meat and cheese, like Henry VIII. The pressure on women to lose weight – at any cost – it's insane. It's horrendous.'

Daisy recently lifted the lid on how her incredible 10-stone weight loss and lip filler treatment delayed the filming of season two of Am I Being Unreasonable?

Things didn't quite go to plan after Daisy underwent a dramatic body transformation and various cosmetic 'tweakments' in the intervening period between series one airing and series two filming beginning.

While the healthy choice to shed the pounds brought a positive impact, it resulted in a host of mean-spirited comments online (seen in 2020)

Daisy is best known for playing the iconic part of Kerry in This Country alongside her brother Charlie

Reflecting on how she dealt with the continuity challenges on The Jonathan Ross Show, the comedian said: 'Series one is meant to be 30 seconds before series two and in that 30 seconds I've lost about 10 stone and had my lips done.

'I saw the rushes and I said to the BBC, "God, we're going to have a disclaimer at the beginning saying - Daisy has had her lips done, go with it and please don't judge."'

Am I Being Unreasonable? is a surreal comedy following two women who enjoy a fun-loving life, before things begin to turn pear-shaped.

Daisy also revealed she had been flooded with messages telling her that she's 'no longer funny' since changing her appearance.

Discussing her appearance, she told the BBC podcast How To Be In The Spotlight: 'I'm so for body positivity but when I was at my biggest I was at my most miserable and I had a massive food addiction.

'I wasn't healthy. I couldn't breathe when I was walking up the stairs. I was so unhappy.

'And I've had some messages like, "Well, now you've lost the weight you're not funny any more".

'What the f**k? Why do women have to be f**king fat to be funny? That makes me so angry. I champion anybody. I think everybody should be happy with their body. But I wasn't.'
