Felipe is a writer who is an avid film and TV fan, with superhero movies and series being his biggest passion. He graduated from college in 2019, having studied Journalism. Before college, he spent a month studying at the Oxford English Centre. His superhero knowledge expands to the comics, with his undergraduate thesis being "Politics Reflected In American Comics."

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 not only continues the story of its title hero, but it also marks the start of a new era with the perfect visual cue, thanks to the Devil of Hell's Kitchen's new suit. Charlie Cox has donned several Daredevil suits throughout his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In that, I'm including the Netflix The Defenders Saga shows.

In his current solo series, the hero has also donned multiple versions of his Daredevil suit. Daredevil: Born Again season 1 was initially tackled as a legal procedural, which meant that Matt Murdock did not get to suit up a lot. Even after the show went through a creative overhaul, there were not that many scenes with Daredevil in his updated red costume, which looked stunning.

Now fully under the purview of its new creative team, led by showrunner Dario Scardapane, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 debuted a new black suit right in its first episode. The costume is the first that Cox gets to wear with the iconic DDs displayed on Daredevil's chest. That said, it is not a fully new suit, as Matt painted his red costume black, but it carries more meaning for it.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2's Black Suit Honors Its Netflix Roots

When I first saw the Daredevil: Born Again season 2 black suit, my mind raced to two elements. The first is the MCU series' fitting decision to showcase how time has passed, and Matt Murdock's life has changed. Daredevil needed a stealth suit to be able to operate in the shadows after being forced to go underground due to Mayor Fisk's Anti-Vigilante Task Force running wild.

However, the second and most potent element the new black suit reminded me of is Charlie Cox's original Daredevil suit back in the Netflix series. Before he got to put on fancy superhero costumes, Daredevil was out patrolling the streets with black clothes and white hand wraps. It felt very realistic, street-level MCU, paying homage to Matt's boxing origins.

Daredevil: Born Again's New Suit Has A Special Meaning

While just giving Daredevil a black suit would have been exciting, as he has donned that type of costume in the comics, the way Marvel has gone about doing so is even more profound. With every new episode, we watch as the black on Daredevil's suit slowly brushes off, showing more and more of the red hiding underneath.

The new Daredevil suit honors the past while slowly shedding the darkness to go from a hero in hiding to one who should be standing proud to save his city by the end of season 2, as shown in trailers. By the way it is going, Daredevil's suit should be fully red in the finale, which would fit with Daredevil: Born Again's completion of the Mayor Fisk storyline, being beautifully symbolic.
