It's been a while since we've gotten any official updates on A24's Elden Ring movie, but a new report has revealed that the film has a massive budget. Elden Ring is certainly more expensive than any other movie the Backrooms studio has made before, so it'll be A24's first true blockbuster.
What is the budget of A24's Elden Ring?
The Wall Street Journal published an in-depth report on A24 on Oct. 23. While it's mostly highlighting how the studio found success with Backrooms and You Can See Everything this year, it also confirms that Elden Ring has a budget close to $200 million. "A24 is currently making its most expensive movie to date—an adaptation of the video game Elden Ring scheduled for release in 2028 that costs nearly $200 million, according to people familiar with the matter," the report explains.
With that budget, Elden Ring will have far surpassed Marty Supreme to become A24's most expensive movie. A24 is reportedly worth over $3.5 billion and is looking for ways to stay independent as it grows. Putting out a blockbuster adaptation of one of the decade's most popular video games is part of that strategy.
Still, signs point to Elden Ring being more of an A24-feeling film than your typical blockbuster. It's directed by Alex Garland, who previously made movies like Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Civil War. We also know it'll star actors like Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, and Nick Offerman in undisclosed roles, as we're still being kept in the dark about plot details.
We haven't seen a blockbuster video game adaptation make a run at awards season before, but if anything could do that, it would be Elden Ring. A24 currently plans to release Elden Ring in theaters on March 3, 2028. That year, we can also expect a Helldivers movie from Sony Pictures and a Call of Duty movie from Skydance.
