From sheer shockers and garish gowns to a very regrettable G-string frock: A look back at the worst red carpet looks from the Brownlow Medal

For sports lovers, it's AFL's night of nights. 

But for fashion lovers, the Brownlow Medal often becomes a night of frights, thanks to a long history of regrettable red carpet moments. 

While plenty of WAGs regularly hit the mark with their Brownlow looks each year, there remains a string of unforgettable blunders burned in our memories for eternity. 

From questionable silhouettes to eye-popping embellishments, we take a look at the bad, the worse and the downright dastardly moments from the Brownlow Medal over the years. 

We start our list back in 2001, when Tania Buckley raised eyebrows with her risqué pink gown that featured a bejewelled G-string detail that partially exposed her derriere. 

In 2019, Tania told The Herald Sun she'd been criticised for years simply for wearing the daring gown.

'I wouldn't wish it on anybody,' she said.

Brynne Edelsten, former wife of the late Geoffrey Edelsten, has also made headlines over the years for her figure-hugging, elaborate and risqué fashion choices.

From black and pink lace minis and renaissance-inspired corset numbers to mirror-embellished bodices and plunging necklines, Brynne has never failed to trigger a little controversy on the red carpet.

Edelsten's former fiancée Gabi Grecko has also taken the red carpet fashion code to new levels with her increasingly outrageous and theatrical pieces.

In 2014, the American model made sure all eyes were on her in a perilously low-cut embellished black number with a split so high it threatened to expose her modesty.

The front of her dress featured a plunging neckline almost cut to her navel, revealing her ample cleavage.

The same year Renee Enright, wife of Geelong Football Club's Corey Enright, also suffered a fashion fail.

Despite being a personal stylist, she rocked up on the red carpet in an unusual white trouser suit.

Shunning a gown unlike the rest of the WAGs, the brunette wore a plunging jacket with embellished, flared bottoms which were too long for the slender beauty.

Travelling to 2025, Ellie Dickinson, partner of the Suns' Sam Flanders, made headlines for her bizarre frock, which featured a plunging chainmail-esque top and ruched skirt. 

The unusual silhouette, mustard hue and OTT gathering at the skirt did little to flatter Ellie's incredible figure. 

Joining Ellie on the 2025 Brownlow worst-dressed list was Lexi Mary, Western Bulldogs' Rory Lobb's partner, who dialed up the sci-fi with an iridescent holographic gown that shimmered like an oil slick. 

It was more space-age than black tie, and certainly stood out among the more traditional red carpet frocks on the night. 

Another shocking look came in 2001, when Sarita Stella wore a red-leather football-inspired gown with a matching clutch.

In 2003, Fiona Mills shocked as she arrived in a gown embellished with patches from each team.

In 2015, Taylor Wilson, the partner of Collingwood's Dane Swan, dared in a sheer skirt worn over a leotard to show off her leg tattoo.

Also joining the list is Andrew McLeod's wife Rachel McLeod, who arrived for the 2006 red carpet with an interesting '23' on the back.

In 2018, Jarryn Geary's partner Emma Giles made a bold statement in a plunging white number with bizarre pleated detailing around the bottom.

Ruby Keddie, the partner of then GWS Co-Captain Callan Ward meanwhile made worst-dressed lists at the 2014 with her bright pink lacy gown with a satin skirt.

And rounding out our list is Kate Turner, who made a bold style statement as she stepped out in a very risqué, one-shouldered dress.

The girlfriend of Bombers star Dyson Heppell certainly turned heads in the bizarre black PVC bondage-inspired frock with a daring thigh split.
