Reacher's Alan Ritchson says he doesn't feel 'worthy of love' amid divorce from wife of 20 years

Alan Ritchson reflected on not feeling 'worthy of love' amid his divorce from estranged wife Catherine Ritchson.

The 43-year-old Reacher star – who announced his split from Catherine this month – filmed himself shirtless as he told his audience, 'Today I want to talk about learning to love yourself.'

The father-of-three referred to his contemplation as 'post sauna clarity' as he recalled growing up in a household where his mother would scold him for getting attention from others.

'My mother would notice I got a lot of attention effortlessly, without trying. As a kid, people would just, they'd approach us and [say] "look at him" and "oh he's so cute."

'In my ear, she'd whisper, "It's not all about you,"' he said.

'[There was] this reduction of myself when I wasn't even trying to get attention. And so you hear that enough times, and you start to feel like, I'm not only not worthy of love, but I'm not supposed to be loved. And you carry that into adulthood.'

'What does it look like when we don't love ourselves? We're constantly escaping into some other thing that ultimately reduces us into a lower vibrational state of ourselves,' he went on.

'You know, the world bombards us with so many messages, each day, about how we're not quite enough, right?'

'If we just bought this thing or if we were not sober we'd be more fun, more relational, we’d be better friends, you know? If we had this or that material thing we’d be worth more to the world and more worthy of love, right? It's kind of the message that capitalism teaches us and it’s hard in western cultures to get rid of that lie,' he shared.

He wrapped up his video musings by telling his followers: 'You're enough, and I am too. We're worthy of love.' 

The video clip was captioned, 'To whoever needs to hear this…' and has so far collected more than 200,000 likes. 

In mid September Ritchson revealed that he and Catherine decided to separate after a 20-year marriage. The exes announced the news in a joint Instagram post. 

Ritchson initially filed for divorce in December 2025, but the husband and wife briefly reconciled this past March. Legal documents reviewed by the Daily Mail showed the actor filed on December 1, 2025, citing 'irreconcilable differences.'

The exes share sons Calem, 13, Edan, 12, and Amory, 10.

Former high school sweethearts, they met in a ballet class in Florida when Ritchson was 17 and Catherine was 16.

They got engaged in 2005 and married in 2006. 

The social media post announcing their separation began: 'After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way.'

The note continued, 'We grew up together. We built a life and a family together. And we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the center of our world. Nothing can diminish what these years have meant to us - or the love and respect we will always share.' 

The estranged couple concluded by declaring their devotion to raising their children as they asked for personal privacy.

They wrote: 'The best gift we can give one another - and our boys - right now is friendship, grace, and a commitment to become the strongest co-parents we can be. We also want to give each other room to grow into the people we are becoming. 

'Change is hard enough without the whole world weighing in. We hope, especially for the sake of our boys, that you will allow our family to move through this chapter with privacy and compassion.'
