Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there.
Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers.
We all know that being an illegitimate child in the Game of Thrones universe is not an easy life, but in this RPG inspired by the hit television and book series, you will be able to forge your very own path, climbing from an illegitimate child from a small noble house in the North, to a figure worthy of the history books.
Game of Thrones may have come to an end back in 2019 following a less than crowd-pleasing finale, but that has not stopped its popularity from ever-increasing. Thanks to spin-off shows, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon, fans are still eager to see the magical fantasy world created by George R.R. Martin and luckily, the dedicated releases do not stop there.
First released back in May 2025 on PC, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is a free-to-play story-driven action RPG set in the fictional lands of Westeros. Developed by Netmarble, it "brings Westeros to life with remarkable detail and a never-before-seen scale". Allowing players to venture from King's Landing to Castle Black and everywhere in between, they will even get to visit the Wall and beyond to see the horrors that lurk beyond.
"Explore the seven kingdoms that make up Westeros in the vast open world of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad. Discover vivid landscapes, massive cities, backwater towns, untamed wilderness, and the people that inhabit them," the official Steam synopsis reads.
As the illegitimate child of House Tyre, you are thrust into the lands of Westeros following the deaths of your brothers. Now, with the threat of winter ever looming, you must embark on a mission to restore your house to its former glory. "Solidify your political position, navigate the complex power struggles between the noble houses of Westeros, and seek out what allies you can, all while aiding the Night’s Watch in their preparations for the final confrontation with the White Walkers and their army of the dead that awaits just beyond the Wall."
Featuring dynamic and immersive visceral ARPG combat, the ability to choose your playthrough based on several classes, and even embark on co-op gameplay to take down some of Westeros' most cruel beasts, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is appealing to fans of the show and books alike.
However, it appears as though Games of Thrones: Kingsroad will continue to be unplayable for millions as it celebrates its first season. According to a Steam post by Netmarble, the Game of Thrones-inspired RPG has an important update.
"The development team is currently in the final stages of preparing for Global Integration, which will be based on the enhanced systems and service structure currently available in the Asia Build," it reads. "We are working to complete this process within the third quarter.
We had hoped to share this news sooner. However, we believed that announcing details before they were finalized could cause unnecessary confusion, and we sincerely apologize that this has taken longer than expected."
It is disheartening to say the least, but we now at least know that the development team is working on making Game of Thrones: Kingsroad and all of its content accessible worldwide. As such, the future of the magical world created by George R.R. Martin continues to look bright.
