Star Trek remains one of the most iconic sci-fi franchises of all-time, and any new release connected to the IP is always going to generate plenty of interest from fans. That's particularly true if many of the most iconic characters and factions from its various iterations also return, and there's a long list of those to choose from.
From Spock and Kirk, to the Federation's first contact with the Borg during Next Generation, any Star Trek product that brings all of those elements together is bound to do well. Step forward Magic: The Gathering, who recently confirmed a new set tied to the beloved sci-fi series is on the way, and we now have all the information we need about the Commander Decks that will take center stage.
WIzards of the CoastAs first reported by CBR.com, Wizards of the Coast has revealed the four Commander Decks for Magic: The Gathering's upcoming Star Trek set. There is a deck each for the Original Series and Next Generation eras, as well as villainous decks based on two of the most formidable enemy factions in Trek history, the Klingons and the Borg.
The Landing Party Deck features Spock as the Face Commander, with players likely approach being to play as many Lands as possible, as quickly as possible. The Federation Fleet deck draws inspiration from the more modern iterations of the show, with the legendary Jean-Luc Picard taking center stage this time around.
The Klingon Fury deck looks like it has the potential to be the most devastating of the bunch if you get it right as the player, with Worf taking the lead there. Last up is the We Are The Borg deck, led by the Queen of the Borg, which is all about getting as many creatures into play as you can, much like their foundational counterparts in the show.
The Star Trek set is very heavy on new Commanders overall, with Captain Picard, Spock, Worf, the Borg Queen, Captain Kirk, Captain Sisko, Captain Janeway, Seven of Nine, Hoshi Sato, Dr. Beverly Crusher, Ensign Boimler, Ensign Mariner, Khan, and Trelane all appearing as Legendary Creature cards this time around.
MovieStillsDBWizards of the Coast are still yet to reveal exactly the cards that are set to appear in the four Star Trek MTG Commander Decks, but we can expect to get confirmation in relatively short order. Other than that, it's simply a case of waiting for the full set to release, with that scheduled to go ahead on November 13 this year.
