Jason Statham's new thriller got his vengeance by retaining his Rotten Tomatoes streak.
Thanks to his athleticism and martial arts training, Statham is no doubt one of Hollywood's biggest leading stars. The Transporter trilogy helped secure his status as an action hero, which remains strong two decades later with projects like The Mechanic, The Meg, and Wrath of Man. Now, Statham sneaks onto a cargo ship, where his protagonist wants revenge for his boss's death in the thriller, Mutiny.

Ahead of release, reviews for Mutiny were mostly mixed to negative, with the Rotten Tomatoes score at 49%. Critics noted problems with the uninspiring and predictable story, illogical subplots, and the lackluster depth of Statham's character. Nevertheless, the one voice that matters is the audience, who couldn't disagree more.
With over 100 verified ratings, Mutiny's audience score is a strong 85%, with moviegoers appreciating the suspense, the full-blown action, and Statham's aura. As a result, the actor now maintains a rare Rotten Tomatoes streak with 10 straight movies earning positive Popcornmeter scores. This hot run started with the Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw in 2019.

Interestingly, of Statham's last 10 movies, six saw critics and audiences divided. Hobbs & Shaw, Wrath of Man, The Beekeeper, and Shelter were the four that saw the groups in agreement.
Although audiences love Statham's new movie, unfortunately, that may not be enough. Considering Mutiny cost $40 million to produce, the thriller will open to a projected $7.4 million and debut at #6 on the domestic box-office charts, behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Insidious: Out of the Further, and The Odyssey.
The underwhelming box office may stem from Amazon's accidental leak, just one day before its release. Although the movie was removed from streaming, the damage was likely done, and film buyers are not happy with the situation. Regardless of the streaming hiccup, Mutiny is expected to see success once it lands on home release. In fact, regardless of the box-office performance, Statham's movies are huge on streaming and video-on-demand.
While his 2026 movie schedule comes to an end, he is far from done with the action genre. His next two releases are The Beekeeper 2, set for January 2027, and Jason Statham Stole My Bike, where he plays himself in August 2027.
Mutiny was directed by Jean-François Richet, while the script was penned by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis. The cast also features Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, and Adrian Lester. Statham was the producer alongside Marc Butan.
Mutiny is now playing in theaters.
