Jennifer Lopez Gets Emotional About Twins Max, Emme Going to College

Jennifer Lopez Reveals How She’s Helping Twins Max and Emme Prepare for College

Jennifer Lopez is getting real about becoming an empty nester.

The 56-year-old revealed that getting ready to send her 18-year-old twins Max and Emme—whom she shares with ex Marc Anthony—to college at the end of the summer has been an emotional whirlwind, having initially felt ready to let them fly from the nest.

“They're so independent,” Lopez told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live on June 8. “I've given them roots and wings and it's great and this is how it is. This is a healthy mom thing to do.”

But when the “I’m Real” singer started making preparations for her kids’ high school graduation, the reality of the situation hit her.

“I just was like writing something for the end of the school year thing for them to put in the program at the graduation,” she explained. “And I just have not, like every time it comes up I just start crying. I could cry right now.”

After all, the twins and Lopez—who, since her and Anthony’s 2014 split, dated Alex Rodriguez for four years before rekindling her romance with Ben Affleck, only to break up for a second time in 2024—have been an effective trio for many years now.

“It’s an emotional time,” she added. “It’s been the three of us. People have come in and out of my life, but it’s been the three of us. They’ve always been there, and I’ve always been there.”

Not one to miss a moment of this major milestone, Lopez previously shared her plans to help move Max and Emme into their college dorms.

“We have sheets at the house,” she explained to Jimmy Kimmel during Jimmy Kimmel Live! on May 27. “We’re gonna pack up their rooms here and they’re going to take all the things that they want to take to their dorms.”

And despite the bittersweet feelings that come with sending her children out on their own, the “On The Floor” singer is excited to see her twins blossom as they enter adulthood.

“I remember being that age and thinking I couldn’t wait to get out in the world and do my thing,” she told Kimmel. “I really wanted that. All year people are asking me, ‘Oh they’re going away to college it’s going to be terrible.’ No, it’s going to be great.”

She continued, “I want them to go out there and do what they want to do. They have dreams. They have things they want to do. It’s going to be great.”

And Lopez isn’t the only celeb who has had to send their kid off to college. Read on to see other stars who have helped their kids step into adulthood…
