Jennifer Lopez's return to romantic comedies now has a release date and first-look image.
Lopez is now back in the world of romantic comedies opposite Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein in Office Romance, with the film now scheduled to make its Netflix debut on June 5. The actors play the respective roles of CEO Jackie Cruz and new employee Daniel Blanchflower, two work-obsessed colleagues who begin a secret office romance that causes trouble. Check out the first-look image below of Jackie and Daniel gazing lovingly into each other's eyes:
Credit: NetflixWhile this genre is familiar territory for Lopez, Netflix's description refers to it as a "raunchy romantic comedy," and she told People that "It's a classic romance, with modern edgier humor." Director Ol Parker also teased that "It pushes the envelope slightly for what people might expect from a Jennifer Lopez movie." Even though the Maid in Manhattan star "was booked back to back with other projects," she "knew I had to do this movie," as Goldstein and Joe Kelly's script "felt instantly special, a new kind of romantic comedy that really speaks to the times."
Office Romance features Edward James Olmos as Jack Cruz, the father of Lopez's character, which reunites the two actors after he played her father in the 1997 movie Selena. The star-studded cast also includes Betty Gilpin, Tony Hale, Bradley Whitford, Amy Sedaris, Jodie Whittaker, Roger Bart, Jackie Sandler, Tony Plana, Donald Elise Watkins, Natalie Ortega, Mary Wiseman, Brian Gallivan, Ali Stroker, Michelle Hurd, Scott Seiss, Lisa Gilroy, Rick Hoffman, Will Sasso, and Mo Welch. Lopez is one of the movie's producers via her Nuyorican Productions banner, and Goldstein and Kelly are producers as well.
For Goldstein, this is far from his first project that he has starred in, written, and produced. Beyond portraying the fan-favorite character Roy Kent in Ted Lasso, he wrote multiple episodes, including one with his Office Romance co-writer Kelly. He is one of the show's producers and is back for Ted Lasso season 4, which is slated to release this August. Additionally, Goldstein is one of the co-creators, writers, and executive producers of Apple TV's critically acclaimed series Shrinking and played the role of Louis in seasons 2 and 3.
The Ted Lasso episode Brett Goldstein and Joe Kelly co-wrote is season 2, episode 9, "Beard After Hours."
After his success with Apple TV, Goldstein is expanding to Netflix with Office Romance, while Lopez builds on her past work with the streamer following The Mother and Atlas. Between the consistently high viewership Ted Lasso and Shrinking have brought to Apple TV, and how well The Mother and Atlas performed on Netflix, there is potential for more streaming success with Lopez and Goldstein leading a raunchy romantic comedy film.
Office Romance will be released on Netflix on June 5.
