Spoilers ahead for Reacher season 4, episode 7.Reacher season 4 is based on one of Lee Child's most acclaimed books, Gone Tomorrow. However, unlike previous seasons, season 4 takes significant creative liberties. With each new episode, it drifts further and further away from the original book. The show even seems to have changed one of the biggest twists from the original novel that reveals the true identity of the main villain.

Lee Child's Gone Tomorrow is known for featuring one of the best opening scenes in the entire series. It begins on a subway train where Jack Reacher suddenly suspects a woman of being a suicide bomber. Through Jack Reacher's inner monologue, the scene walks through an Israeli counterterrorism checklist of 12 behavioral indicators used to spot potential suicide bombers.

The checklist almost serves as a countdown in the book, where Reacher only approaches the suspicious woman after she ticks all the right boxes. To his dismay, however, she reaches out for a revolver in her bag and dies by suicide before Reacher can do anything to save her. This perfectly marks the beginning of his journey in the book as his guilt drives him to seek justice.

While the show also unfolds on a subway train in season 4's opening sequence and even shows how Reacher struggles to save the woman, it never walks through the 12-point checklist. Arguably, this makes the show's opening sequence a little underwhelming compared to the book's first arc. Fortunately, Reacher season 4 finds a clever way to recreate the same tension from the book's opening scene in episode 7.

In the ending moments of Reacher season 4's episode 7, the Alan Ritchson character deduces that the villains, Lila and Amisha Hoth, will deploy a deadly biological agent out in the public and kill thousands. While they struggle to figure out the location of an imminent terrorist attack, Congressman Sampson deduces that they will likely deploy the weapon in an ongoing high-profile political fundraiser.

Realizing that it would be too late before he arrives at the venue, Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher walks Sampson through the same checklist of behavioral indicators used to spot potential suicide bombers. With this, the sequence becomes reminiscent of the one from the book's opening moments where Reacher puts his intelligence and tactical experience on full display.

With Reacher's help, Sampson is even able to spot the attacker before it is too late and evade his plan. Although this seemingly costs Sampson his life, he is able to save many innocents from a bioweapon attack. This sequence from Reacher season 4 captures how, even though the show cannot feature Jack Reacher's inner monologue like the books, it finds creative ways to channel his thoughts and insights.
