Red, White & Royal Wedding's Prime Video Release Window Revealed By Star

In an interview with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley for Ballistic, new cast member and Game of Thrones alum Lena Headey revealed that Red, White & Royal Wedding will arrive on Prime Video sometime at the "end of the year," though a specific release hasn't been officially announced just yet.

Headey is set to play Princess Catherine in the Jamie Babbit-directed film, whom the actor describes as being "a little uptight" and "quite funny." She added that she had a "really fun" time filming Red, White & Royal Wedding and "felt very lucky to be joining a warm, nutsy band of people."

"It was really fun and had a great, great cast. I felt very lucky to be joining a warm, nutsy band of people. And Catherine is a little uptight, I would say, and quite funny...I think [the film will be released in 2026]. Yeah, I think end of the year."

Headey is best known for playing Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones, the hugely popular series that aired for eight seasons on HBO and earned the actor several nominations at the Emmys, Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and Critics' Choice Awards. After Game of Thrones ended, she moved on to other shows and movies like The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Wizards: Tales of Arcadia, White House Plumbers, The Abandons, DC League of Super-Pets, and Ballistic, which arrives in theaters on April 17, 2026.

Red, White and Royal Blue adapted Casey McQuiston's 2019 novel of the same name, which is a love story in which Alex Claremont-Diaz, the son of a U.S. politician, and Prince Henry, a member of the British Royal Family, begin a secret relationship after feuding with each other.

The Matthew López-directed project was released in August 2023 and became the No. 1 film on Prime Video's streaming chart for multiple weeks. Critics praised Red, White & Royal Blue, which is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 75% and an even higher audience score of 92%. During awards season, the film scored an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie and won a GLAAD Media Award for Queer Fan Favorite.

Even though McQuiston has written other books, including One Last Stop, I Kissed Shara Wheeler, and The Pairing, they have never published a sequel to Red, White & Royal Blue, which means the upcoming Prime Video sequel will be an original story written by Gemma Burgess, Matthew López (director of the first film), and Casey McQuiston instead of an adaptation.

Along with Perez, Galitzine, and Headey, Red, White & Royal Wedding will also star Uma Thurman, Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Henry Ashton, Alex Høgh Andersen, Chloe Fineman, Ellie Bamber, Clifton Collins Jr., Stephen Fry, Thomas Flynn, Aneesh Sheth, and Malcolm Atobrah.

Production on the Red, White & Royal Blue sequel, which will focus on the wedding of Prince Henry's sister, Princess Beatrice, ended in March 2026.
