You don't have to, but there are perks if you do. Pre-ordering gets you the special foil OOT cover art pictured above. You can pre-order the 69.99 physical version here, under the drop-down menu that defaults to the digital version. Note that Nintendo does not specify that this is the special foil variant, though many fans assume the first print run will be that version.

The eShop version is live and available for pre-order at $59.99. While not as fun as the foil version, purchasing Ocarina of Time this way allows you to preload and play the game immediately upon release.

The Switch 2 will receive a special Zelda hardware variant on Oct. 29, 2026. Though the hardware leaked a while ago, Tuesday morning's Nintendo Direct was our first real look at the Triforce-emblazoned console. Nintendo did not share a specific price point, but the console will presumably cost $499.99 after Nintendo's recent price hike. Similarly, the manufacturer's suggested retail price for the Zelda Switch 2 Pro Controller is $89.99. A Nintendo-exclusive version of the Pro Controller, available via its online store or physical retail locations, will come with a chic display stand — but we don't yet know if the price of this version will be the same.

Nintendo will also sell a Zelda-themed carrying case and screen protector, but there aren't any purchase links. Nintendo announced a physical ocarina instrument that connects to the game — but no way to buy it, and no known price point.

While little of what was announced today is up for purchase, Nintendo did share specific links to products in the official press release for the Zelda Direct. These links currently do not work and lead to a "Whoops!' page with Wario. However, when the products do go live, this is how you'll be able to find them. You may want to check periodically to see if they are live yet. They may even be live by the time you read this!

Why will the Zelda Switch 2 console be difficult to buy?

Scalper Discords are already discussing the profitability of the potentially limited-time hardware. Nintendo has cautioned that the special display version of the Pro Controller will only be available while supplies last. Back in 2015, when Nintendo released the golden Majora's Mask version of the 3DS, the hardware sold out almost immediately. Fans tracked new supplies of Zelda hardware fervently back then, and that was before the widespread use of resale bots and retail Discord channels. Over a decade later, that commemorative Zelda portable still commands anywhere between $500 to $1,000 on eBay.

Another thing worth keeping in mind is that this will be Nintendo's first official release of fully-themed and colored Joy-Con 2 controllers. Technically, Joy-Con 2 has always featured colorways — but these flourishes aren't visible when the controllers are attached to the console. Fans are starving for a Switch 2 with a real personality, and this Zelda console could meet that need.

Couple that with the knowledge that this is a console tied to a remake of one of the most venerated video games ever made, and a bloodbath seems inevitable. Zelda fans already have a sense of what to expect, based on reactions to the hardware reveal.
