CBS Officially Sets The Record Straight About Tracker Season 4's Confusing Change

Important Tracker season 4 change gets an official clarification from CBS.

Joining a boom of successful book adaptations, the series based on Jeffrey Deaver's The Never Game follows Justin Hartley's Colter Shaw across the country helping people find their missing loved ones. When it debuted in 2024, Tracker didn't waste time resonating with its audience, and ever since, it has become the most-watched show on networK TV — until Luke Grimes' Marshals dethroned it during the last stretch of 2025-2026 TV cycle.

Still, being number 2 isn't all that bad, especially with the rapidly changing entertainment landscape. Tracker season 3 ended a storyelling era, as it finally resolved the mystery surrounding Ashton Shaw's death. Between that and the show's production move from Canada to Los Angeles, and there are a lot of changes to look forward to when it returns as part of CBS's fall 2026 lineup. That said, one detail about its return has been confusing since it was announced.

Per CBS on Instagram, Tracker season 4's original premiere timeslot of 9:30pm ET on Sunday, October 4 won't be its permanent block. Instead, Hartley's procedural will eventually settle into its previous release time at 9pm ET. No word on why there's a thirty-minute delay for its cycle opener, but it's great to know that its roll-out won't be much later every night. Check out the network's announcement below:

Usually, something like this is due to special programming for that specific day. Because the premiere is still too far away, it's difficult to say what exactly is the reason for the delay. Whatever it is, it seems like it's a one-time thing, as Tracker season 4 is expected to eventually settle on its regular timeslot at 9pm ET the following week. Interestingly, CBS is also doing away with special premiere days, which it did for a couple of shows last cycle. This fall, every project is coming back on their official release days.

Tracker season 3 ended with a few major revelations on top of the resolution of Ashton's death mystery. For starters, Russell found out something major about his father's history with his younger brother, prompting him to cooperate with McIntyre without Colter knowing. This effectively started a brand new overarching narrative that will likely play out for the next season, if not longer. Additionally, the finale also revealed that Hartley's character has a secret home base all along.

Because of how Tracker season 3 shifted genre with the increased number of episodes dealing with paranormal concepts, there's interest in seeing if the procedural will be leaning on this moving forward, or if the show is going back to basics. At this point, CBS can go either way, considering where the story of the series currently is. Whatever the case may be, Hartley has previously promised some kind of evolution for Tracker.
