DC Fans Are Convinced A Marvel Rivals Clone Is Right Around The Corner

Jared is a writer, editor, and Communications Studies graduate who loves popular nerd culture (almost anything to do with Marvel, DC, Star Wars, or The Lord of the Rings) and the interactive storytelling medium. Jared's first console was the PS1, wherein he fell for Spider-Man, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot.
DC is trailing far behind Marvel in terms of video games lately. However, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight was its first exceptional game in a long while, building on the strengths of the beloved DC LEGO games and the vital influence of the Batman: Arkham franchise, and the possibility of a brand-new Batman: Arkham game is a tantalizing carrot that’ll always be dangling in front of gamers.
Marvel struck gold with its 6v6 hero-shooter game Marvel Rivals, which has expertly navigated the throes of being a massively popular live-service game in 2026. And, even if it’s still reluctant to push a Marvel Rivals clone wholeheartedly for whatever reason, DC seems to be unabashedly reheating Marvel Rivals’ nachos in its new seasonal crossover event.
On X, fans can’t help but compare the content in DC’s latest Fortnite crossover collaboration to Marvel Rivals, and it isn’t a stretch to see how the latter might’ve inspired the former. Indeed, Fortnite’s Hot Bat Summer debuts Gotham City Summer swimwear skins, not unlike what’s been achieved with Marvel Rivals’ viral Swimsuit Special collection.
User and Twitch streamer bogur writes, “One step closer to DC Allies.” He’s making a joke, but ‘DC Allies’ is the name of the fictional DC version of Marvel Rivals that fans have concocted in the absence of an official DC hero-shooter game, and there is a loud corner of these fanbases that would love to see DC rival Marvel with a Marvel Rivals equivalent.
For this event to be in Fortnite, and not a game of DC’s own, is a shame. User DoritoGOD2 says, “Damn, DC REALLY wants that Rivals summer skin money,” while user Jorge writes, “Marvel Rivals influence but hey #imnotcomplaining.”
Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy’s Hot Bat Summer skins are restricted to game modes rated Teen (ages 13+) or higher.
Swimsuit skins in games may always be subject to criticism and controversy, no matter how relatively modest or natural they are. That said, Marvel Rivals could easily be pointed to as the source of swimsuit skins that’ve caused a lot of hubbub—for better or worse, as well, with notable double standards and contradictions able to be identified, as was the case with fans’ visceral reactions to Captain America’s Seaside Sentinel Marvel Rivals skin.
Either way, whether or not these Gotham City Summer skins for Batman, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy are popular, DC has no excuse not to commit to a hero-shooter game like Marvel Rivals. Fans are itching to see a Marvel Rivals-style game that instead features iconic DC characters, and Fortnite’s Hot Bat Summer could finally be what gets DC to deliver on it.
