The King of Monsters has an unbelievable new weapon, as fresh images of Godzilla reveal the mighty kaiju is now wielding gigantic Wolverine-style claws.
However, some fans are now asking an intriguing question - what if these new images don't show a Wolverine-ized Godzilla, but the King of Monsters' latest kaiju opponent?
Marvel Crossover Unleashes a Godzilla/Wolverine Hybrid
In new solicit information, Marvel has revealed details for the first issue of Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse, from Gerry Duggan and Javier Garrón. Variant covers from Giuseppe Camuncoli (above) and Nic Klein (below) show a Godzilla/Wolverine hybrid, giving the King of Monsters a yellow and blue recolor, gigantic claws and a reshaped 'mask' head design.
Marvel often publishes variant covers that don't depict the events in the comic inside, and its Godzilla series have repeatedly reinvented the kaiju by crossing it with multiple heroes. However, there's reason to believe this is a canon redesign.
Back in 2025, Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #4 featured a variant cover by Drew Baumgartner, redesigning Godzilla as a towering Wolverine kaiju (below.) While this was a non-canon variant at the time, it seems that Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse will make it a reality.
A closer look at Klein's cover shows another kaiju in the foreground who may be the original Godzilla, and the issue's summary states that Marvel's heroes are searching the multiverse for some kind of kaiju rival to take on the King of Monsters:
GODZILLA UNLEASHED, nowhere is safe!
An unholy alliance between KNULL and GODZILLA conquers UNIVERSE 616 - and now DOOM, SPIDER-MAN, KANG, EMMA FROST, GHOST RIDER, THE PUNISHER, MAN-THING and more stand on the edge of annihilation! When DOOMSTADT rips across dimensions to capture a kaiju capable of stopping the KING OF THE MONSTERS, the team collides with MECHA FIENDS, MULTIVERSAL KAIJU and a deadly RED SKULL in ADAMANTIUM armor. But as universes burn, an unexpected ally may hold the key to survival. A bombastic, continuity-shaking launch that shreds the Multiverse in TRUE KAIJU-CRUSHING FASHION!
It's next to impossible that Marvel green-lit two non-canon variant covers using another artist's pre-existing redesign, making it highly likwly that this Wolverzilla is one of the kaiju that Doctor Doom summons to try and defeat Godzilla. If that's the case, then Marvel is about to serve up the ultimate kaiju battle.
Godzilla Has Become a Marvel Superstar
In 2025, Marvel reacquired the license to publish Godzilla comics. It kicked off with a series of one-shots pitting Godzilla against various iconic heroes, then Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe pitted the King of Monsters against the entire roster of Marvel heroes, with the X-Men and Avengers combining their powers into a towering superhero mech.
Currently, Marvel is publishing Godzilla: Infinity Roar - a sequel miniseries which sees Godzilla controlled by the King in Black and sent to destroy Asgard.
Apparently, Knull's influence isn't going anywhere, with Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse completing the trilogy with another escalation that will bring in every reality and character Marvel owns.
Marvel Has Given Godzilla Some of the Coolest Upgrades of All Time
No-one could confuse Marvel's Godzilla comics for its most highbrow output, but the various series have been bombastic, spectacle-focused fun that fully combine Godzilla with Marvel lore. Over various stories, Godzilla has stolen Hulk's gamma strength, siphoned the Silver Surfer's Power Cosmic, and even become the new host of the Venom symbiote.
At the same time, variant covers have combined Godzilla with Carnage, given it its own Iron Man armor, and even turned it into the latest Ghost Rider. However, it seems the Wolverine cover is the one that really fired Marvel's imagination, creating a new version of Godzilla with the X-Men hero's iconic claws.
Godzilla is either about to grow its own set of Wolverine claws, or face off against a multiversal variant with that ability - just the latest extreme redesign caused by interacting with the Marvel Universe. Marvel hasn't held back with any of its Godzilla comics, but this new Wolverine-inspired challenger shows that things can still get wilder and weirder as the entire Marvel multiverse faces off against the King of Monsters.
Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse #1 is coming July 22 from Marvel Comics.
