Hogwarts Legacy Fans, Mark Your Calendars For September 1

Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there.

Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers.

With the upcoming Harry Potter television show from HBO expected to air on 25 December and previous reports suggesting that its storyline is set to "coincide" with that of Hogwarts Legacy 2, fans are under the impression that they can expect the two projects to release within a short period of one another. However, with neither Avalanche Software nor Warner Bros. Games sharing a release window for the Hogwarts Legacy sequel, the future remains uncertain.

That being said, a brand-new date has entered the calendar and, if it is to be believed, 1 September is looking like a big day for fans.

Released back in 2023 and becoming the year's best-selling game, Hogwarts Legacy took Harry Potter fans back to the beloved Hogwarts as they were tasked with making their own witch/wizard, attending the school, and battling the ever-present threat of dark magic.

With a sequel confirmed not long after, fans have been eagerly anticipating Hogwarts Legacy 2, especially as the lack of post-game content for the first game has always been an area of contention.

That being said, the only clue we have about the release date for the Hogwarts Legacy sequel is the news that its storyline will have some sort of synergy with HBO's Harry Potter. If this is the case, the game will have to be announced soon in order to correspond with the show's December air date.

Well, as every hardcore Harry Potter fan will know, 1 September is a big day. It is the date that Harry and his fellow students return to Hogwarts to begin a brand-new term, and, as such, it is celebrated as "Back to Hogwarts Day" by fans. Put simply, if there is any Harry Potter-related announcement to be made, it is usually made on this very day. So, could this be the case for Hogwarts Legacy 2?

Another telling piece of information is, in 2026, "Back to Hogwarts Day" falls on a Tuesday and, as all gamers know, many major game announcements are made on this day. The stars are truly aligning this year, so could 1 September be the day that we receive the release date for the highly anticipated sequel?

Of course, this is purely speculation and there have been no official clues about a potential Hogwarts Legacy 2 announcement. That being said, it would be a shame to see the date past with no news whatsoever, so it remains to be seen. For now, however, we can only hope that Avalanche Software has learned from its mistakes when it comes to the Harry Potter-inspired RPG.
