How Two Point Became One Of The Biggest Simulation Series In Existence

It's been ten years since Two Point Studios released chaotic management sim games like Two Point Museum, Two Point Campus, and Two Point Hospital, and as the developers celebrate this exciting anniversary, they're also looking to the future.

The most recent game, Two Point Museum, was a Game Awards nominee when it was released in 2025, and continues to be a favorite for many, myself included. Even after launching three main expansions so far, including adding wildlife with the Zooseum DLC, more are still expected. Additionally, regular collaborations take place on the game's special "Digiverse" maps, which include points of interest from games like Dredge, Vampire Survivors, Angry Birds, and, most recently, Dave the Diver.

As part of the ten-year celebration taking place at Two Point Studios, ScreenRant was able to ask the team some questions to find out more about the games they make and what's in store for the future. Jo Koehler (Chief Operating Officer), Ben Huskins (Design Director), and Leif Bayliss (Community Manager) of Two Point Studios were gracious enough to share the following information.

Two Point Studios just shared a lot of information on a big livestream event, celebrating the 10-year anniversary. Speaking about the event, Jo Koehler said:

"We had a fantastic time on our livestream! We also shared a showcase filled with nostalgia, heartfelt community messages, and exclusive reveals — for Two Point Museum, we announced and released our Dave the Diver Digiverse collaboration and teased another collaboration coming soon. We also may have teased a future DLC."

"We also announced Two Point Hospital Full Health Console Edition — we are finally bringing all of the Two Point Hospital DLC to Switch 2, Xbox Series, and PS5! Finally, we shared the first episode of 'Two Point Cinematic Universe'."

It feels as though Two Point games have been here forever, particularly with Two Point Hospital's connections to the early Bullfrog game, Theme Hospital. I knew there was some connection between the two games, and Ben Huskins provided some more explanation:

"Mark Webley and Gary Carr (two of the founders of Two Point, and studio directors) worked at Bullfrog and made Theme Hospital, ooh, nearly 30 years ago now! They also went on to make management sim games at other companies like Lionhead and Mucky Foot. Fast-forward to 2016, they could see there was a lot of nostalgia for these games, and an appetite for more sim games in that style. Thus, Two Point Studios was born!"

"We had a lot of fun imagining what a modern hospital business sim game should look and feel like. Not only that, the plan was always to make a series of games all set in the same world. So, from that start, we aimed to build our own world, Two Point County, that we could revisit with each game, with recurring characters, locations, brands, radio DJs, and more."

"So we weren't just creating a hospital game, we were aiming to create the impression of life beyond the hospital walls, and plant the seeds for lots of possible future games."

Of course, anyone who has played one of the games from Two Point Studios knows that the biggest thing to stand out is always the humor. I asked how they keep the balance between so much silliness, without it being too much, and Huskins answered:

"Our main aim is to keep our world charming and lighthearted, not for everything to be over the top. We’ve always tried to combine the wild and whimsical parts of the game with things that are more grounded in reality. For us, it’s all about having that contrast. In Two Point Hospital, at the start of the game, you have some fairly normal-looking patients, and rooms you might expect to see in a hospital: a doctor’s office, a ward, a pharmacy, etc. Then suddenly, someone wanders in with a lightbulb for a head, and you’re building a bizarre machine to unscrew their head."

"We took the same approach in Campus. You have a few expected courses and classes, with classic student archetypes like jocks and nerds, but then we mix in some unexpected courses like Knight School, Wizardry, Spy School and more. With Museum, the exhibits are the star of the show, so that’s where we get to be a bit more playful, but we still try to keep that grounding in the classic items you’d expect to see in a museum: fossils, dinosaur bones, etc."

There's a lot more depth to the Two Point management games than just the humor. The management sims include a lot of inner workings that players can manipulate through staff salaries, budgets, and even things like heating and ensuring there are enough restrooms to keep everyone happy.

Huskins said, "One of the pillars for all our games is accessible depth. Specifically, we want to have those deep management systems in our games, but we don’t want new players to feel overwhelmed."

"Our goal is for all players to feel welcome." - Ben Huskins

"Our goal is for all players to feel welcome, and to allow them to discover the depth of the game at a pace that suits them. We spend a lot of time crafting the early parts of the campaign, thinking about how to ease players into the game, how the various features unlock, and when to start layering on objectives and challenges that put a bit more pressure on the player to utilize the more advanced systems."

"Likewise, when we’re designing the user interface and menus, we take a similar approach, working out what should be front and center, and what are the more advanced tools we don’t expect players to use until later in the game. It’s definitely a challenge, and we’re always learning more about how best to achieve this, but it’s always been an important part of the Two Point formula."

The past ten years have understandably given the Two Point Studios team a few surprises and obstacles along the way. Huskins noted that, "making a game during a pandemic was a real challenge! We all started working from home just as our second game, Campus, was moving out of pre-production into full production, and we made most of the game like that. None of us were used to working like that; we're used to riffing on ideas around the office, ad hoc meetings around someone's desk, so adapting to this took some time."

However, even with the various little issues that have come up over ten years of making these clever and silly management games, there are still many moments that have stood out as cherished memories.

Huskins said, "Finishing and releasing Two Point Hospital was a career highlight really. It was a lot of hard work for everyone on the team, but there was a real buzz around the office. It was a mad sprint to the finish line, but release day was incredible. Watching people streaming the game, seeing the reviews come in, the whole thing was amazing. We'd only been going for two years at the time, and we were still a small team, so to see our first game out in the wild was a great feeling."

Looking to the future, it's hard to imagine many more things that can be covered, particularly now that Two Point Museum can explore such a wide variety of themes. Everything from the paranormal to science and even animals can be found in this all-encompassing game. I asked the team what's left for Two Point Museum at this point and what DLCs might be in the works? Leif Bayliss answered:

"We still have SO many ideas for new themes to bring to Two Point Museum that we struggle to choose just one with each DLC! Even if we didn't, our players share incredible suggestions with us every single day. We love listening to community feedback and popular suggestions are always considered when deciding where we'll go next."

"We've still got a lot planned for Two Point Museum, and we can't wait to announce more later this year."

Bayliss then went on to add, "We still have a lot planned for Two Point Museum, but the wonderful thing about our games is that we as a studio learn and grow so much with every release. We've come a long way over the past ten years and people can expect us to keep expanding into new territories in the future. We think the next [game] might surprise people, in a good way... we hope!)."

As final thoughts, Jo Koehler shared, "Thank you so much to all our players! It feels like we're only just getting started, and we can't wait for the next 10 years!"
