It's become something of a tradition for This Morning presenters to be transparent about their hangovers after a big night at the National Television Awards

The tradition started with former BFFs Holly Willoughby, 45, and Phillip Schofield, 64, after they came to work in their stained outfits from the night before in 2016.

And hungover Cat Deeley, 49, and Ben Shephard, 51, gave them a run for their money when they crawled into the studios after nearly losing their Daytime gong on Wednesday.

They groaned in delight as chef Jamie Oliver cooked them bacon sandwiches with chilli, because chilli helps a hangover and said it was a 'very late night.'

Proudly holding up their gong as the show opened, Cat said: 'It's really heavy isn't it? You almost lost it, this morning didn't you?'

Ben said: 'We got it here, might have a little graze on it, but that' sanother story for another day.'

Cat said:  'We won best daytime show, at last night's television awards, it was just fab, wasn't it?'

The This Morning crowd were in very high spirits after their big win

Cat and Ben said that even their director had lived it up the night before and hinting they weren't feeling amazing

And Ben said: 'The director was out very late last night. It was a very late night. Fortunately Jamie is over there in the kitchen.'

Jamie said: 'Smoky bacon and egg sandwiches, brown sauce and chili. I've sorted you right out. I know what you need when you've had a long one.'

'You know what's the funniest thing?' Cat said. 'I left quite early as I've normally got one of the little boys in the bed with me. I call them the creepers.

'And Milo comes in with me last night at 2 o'clock in the morning and he goes... "mum, did you win?! I said "Yes, now close your eyes and go back to sleep".'

Jamie added that a bit of chilli is good for a hangover, adding: 'Nothing better than a bacon sandwich for when you've had a few too many glasses of strange white wine.'

'We were working very hard celebrating on behalf of all our fans,' Ben confirmed with a glint in his eye.

He asked Jamie to explain why chilli is so good for you on a hangover.

He said: Chilli has a compound called capsaicin which is nature's natural form of morphine It's antiseptic, it thins the blood, it's antibacterial, it will mop up all the stuff you had last night.'

It proved to be a winning night for the This Morning team when they took home the award for Best Daytime show alongside Friday hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary.

Former ITV golden girl Holly was one of the last to arrive on the red carpet, as she avoided Cat, Ben and the rest of the This Morning gang who arrived much earlier.

The star, who recently launched her own YouTube chat show, was the epitome of elegance in a strapless gown with with silver diamante detail.

Cat meanwhile wowed in a red and purple floral dress and statement gold necklace as she put on an animated display with her co-host Ben.

Over the years, Holly and Phil have left fans in hysterics when they have arrived in an embattled state (pictured left in 2012 and right in 2017)
