Looking for Alibrandi actress Pia Miranda reveals she was warned 'something bad' would happen if she accepted producer Harvey Weinstein's invitation to fly on his private plane

Pia Miranda has shared how a warning from a fellow actress prevented her from accepting an offer from predatory producer Harvey Weinstein. 

The Australian actress was riding high on the success of her 2000 film, Looking for Alibrandi, at the time, when the American movie business titan invited her to join him on his private jet. 

Miranda, 53, who was in her late 20s at the time, was told by another Aussie actress, Greta Scacchi, that she should reject the invite. 

Scacchi told Miranda that 'something bad' would happen to her if she went. 

'I'm grateful that I didn't get jaded by a bad experience,' Miranda told Stellar this week. 

'But I was so sad, because I was really innocent and I thought everyone had my best interests at heart.

'So it was really hard to know that obviously it was not the case.'

Miranda says that looking back, she has reflected on 'all the things she put up with' in her career as a young actress, 'whether it's sleazy bosses, [men] in pubs or the things that have been said about you.'

The actress has previously discussed her near-miss with film director Weinstein at the height of her career.  

In an excerpt from her memoir Finding My Bella Vita, published by The Australian, the actress recalled how at age 27 she was invited by Weinstein to take a solo trip on his private plane. 

Pia revealed it was her Alibrandi co-star Scacchi who forced her to cancel the trip. 

The actresses were coincidentally in Italy at the time, when she told Scacchi of a possible private plane trip to London with Weinstein.  

'[Greta] flew into a panic … and demanded I cancel', and said, 'something bad will happen to you on that plane.' 

'Harvey Weinstein wasn't a fan of my work, I was just a disposable young woman who was easy prey,' Pia added of the producer. 

Greta famously portrayed Pia's protective mother Christina Alibrandi in the 2000 smash hit film Looking for Alibrandi. 

Pia went on to say she was 'grateful' to Greta and went on to call her a 'hero' for looking out for her.

'Sure, maybe nothing bad would have happened to me on that plane alone with him, but after so many brave women spoke up about him over the years, I'm grateful I never got to find out,' she said. 

Weinstein, 74, was famously jailed for a number of sexual assaults and rapes perpetrated on mostly actresses, whom he often met under the guise of work. 

He was eventually sentenced to 16 years in prison.
