While the Hitman series has always had a legendary status in the gaming community, the reboot trilogy, currently packaged as HITMAN World of Assassination, has been one of its most successful eras yet. Having reached over 75 million players for the final entry in the decade-long trilogy, it's no wonder that the reboot series is IO Interactive's first pick for itsnewest spin-off.

HITMAN Is Getting A Brand New Board Game

HITMAN the Board Game

It might not be the direct HITMAN sequel you might have been hoping for, the announcement of Hitman: The Board Game is still offering an exciting new way to experience the classic formula of the reboot trilogy as a 1-4 player competitive board game.

Allowing you to play as one of four agents from Agent 47, Stone, Knight, or Lucas Grey, each player competes to use ability cards based on classic actions from the series to be the first to take down their target. Selected from a pool of maps and targets pulled directly from the beloved trilogy, each of them will have unique effects and gameplay mechanics you'll need to work around to complete your mission.

To keep things fresh, Hitman: The Board Game will also offer modular map pieces that can be swapped out after each mission to make it similar to Hitman's replayable gameplay loop, combined with a card system to take disguises, move, distract guards, and plenty of other actions and items from the game to get closer to their target.

Fans Have Raised More Than A Few Concerns

While there isn't any information available regarding the crowdfunding timeline or the tier prices for Hitman: The Board Game's campaign, the project has already gotten backlash from players regarding the publisher's past collaborations. As pointed out by Gamefound user IceMaverick, the publisher's previous efforts to make a Valheim project had a plethora of issues, resulting in fans still frustrated to this day over undelivered rewards.

From missing or damaged pieces, long wait times from support, or simply never getting the rewards they paid for, it's not hard to see why players are so hesitant to buy into a new project when fans are still waiting for the creators to deliver on their previous promises.

Other players have even reported that premium editions of Valheim: The Board Game faced problems with pieces not fitting at all, going so far as to "Highly recommend not to buy from them." While it might seem like a pretty clear-cut case, the creators have directly acknowledged these concerns in the comments as well, while promising that "we’ve been actively working through these issues, and no one is being left behind".

Although only time will tell if MOOD's supposedly improved communication and production processes will ensure a much smoother launch for the board game adaptation of HITMAN World of Assassination this time around, it's hard not to be at least a little excited about a new entry in the HITMAN universe, especially with how fun the project looks like it will be to play.
