One month in. Is Mario Kart World worth the $80 price point?
It's been a month already since the Nintendo Switch 2 launched. Let that sink in for a moment, Destructoid. But not for too long, as we have to have a discussion over Mario Kart World and its price. It has and will likely always be a big sticking point, and the conversation hasn't died down after launch. So I want to use this article as a pseudo-way for the community to come together and decide once and for all if Mario Kart World is worthy of being Nintendo's first 80-dollar game. And to be fair, I'll be playing devil's advocate for both sides to keep the discussion fair. On the one hand, there are a lot of arguments for the game not being worth $80. Many critics feel like the game is typical Mario Kart with a gimmick and doesn't really offer anything new. Even the main menu is the same with limited options, no way to properly play with friends against randoms online, and not enough online options to let people play the game the way they want, only how Nintendo wants you to play it. As for the people who do think it's worth the price, there is no denying that free roam does offer a lot of ways to enjoy the game at a leisurely pace, with a bunch of missions and secrets to discover. You also have a bunch of new modes, ways to race, a knockout tour, and a ton of new racers. And the game's visuals in most places are quite stunning. But it's really down to personal opinion on whether you feel it was worth the price, and whether you feel like you have gotten your money's worth from your purchase, not just from the game, but from the Switch 2 as a whole. For me, I am enjoying playing Switch 2, especially games that have a Switch 2 framerate upgrade from the previous console. But let us know in the comments what your thoughts are.
