Before Screen Rant, he was a Senior Writer for The Cinemaholic, covering everything from anime to television, from reality TV to movies.
After high school, he was on his way to become a Civil Engineer. However, he soon realized that writing was his true calling. As a result, he took a leap and never looked back.
Like Silo's previous two installments, season 3, too, will feature Rebecca Ferguson's Juliette as one of the key drivers of its story. Since Ferguson has done an incredible job of leading the show's cast so far, it is hard not to be excited about her return as Juliette. However, a closer look at the Apple TV sci-fi show's books' lore reveals that her return in season 2 alone significantly changes the original story.
For the most part, this approach has also worked fairly well for the series for two seasons. Season 2's pace felt a little off, but it made up for its shortcomings in its final moments. In season 3, however, it looks like Apple TV's Silo will drift further away from the books, especially by marking Juliette's return in a major capacity.
Silo Season 3 Will Not Take The Same Approach As Hugh Howey’s Second Novel
Silo season 2's ending aligns with that of the first book, Wool, in Hugh Howey's trilogy. Owing to this, Silo season 3 should logically adapt the second novel, Shift. Interestingly, though, while the Apple TV show will pick stories from Hugh Howey's Shift, it will not serve as a direct adaptation. Hugh Howey's Shift unfolds more like a spin-off that primarily focuses on the origins and history of the central silos.
Since the book unfolds a long time before the present timeline of the series, it features a whole new set of characters. Juliette, too, only appears towards the end of the book when it switches back to the present timeline. Rebecca Ferguson's confirmed return in a major role establishes that Silo season 3, unlike Hugh Howey's Shift, will not primarily focus on the past.
Instead, it will likely switch back and forth between the past and the present to reveal how the origins of the silos connect to present-day politics in Silo 18.
Towards the end of Silo season 2, it is also hinted that Sims' wife, Camille, will become a major player in season 3. Season 2's ending seems to establish that Camille will become Juliette's biggest political rival in Silo 18. This story arc does not exist in the original books, and Camille is not even a character in the original books.
By giving way more importance to Camille and setting her up as Juliette's next big nemesis, Silo is bound to drift further away from the books in season 3. It will still likely walk through all the major events of the past timeline from Hugh Howey's Shift. However, it will do so while unraveling everything Juliette has to do in the present timeline to ensure the safety of her people in Silo 18.
Silo Season 3's Book Changes Will Benefit The Series
Book changes can always be tricky to pull off and may not always be received too well by fans of the source material. However, in Silo's case, it did not make sense for the series to completely drop its ongoing storyline in season 3 and only focus on the past timeline. Viewers who have watched the show since season 1 have grown attached to its main cast and are used to seeing Juliette as the primary lead.
By suddenly introducing a whole new cast and leaving characters like Juliette behind for almost an entire season, Silo would have risked alienating audiences.
Silo season 3 will premiere sometime in Summer 2026.
Owing to this, it makes sense that the show is not treading the same path as the books and taking a slightly different storytelling approach. The TV format also allows the show to have enough runtime to introduce some of its own original plot lines. Silo season 2 suffered because Juliette's narrative barely progressed until the final arc.
Silo's seasons 3 and 4 will likely not face the same pacing issues because they already have a lot of ground to cover from the books' story and the original beats set up by previous installments. Hopefully, the upcoming installments of the Apple TV series will not disappoint.
