Skye Wheatley admits she had a wine and some cocktails over the weekend as she speaks out about drink driving charge: 'Getting to know my limits'

Skye Wheatley admitted she had some wine and cocktails over the weekend, while speaking out about her recent drink driving charge.

Last month, the Big Brother Australia star was banned from driving for five months and fined $700 after pleading guilty to being in charge of a motor vehicle while over the alcohol limit.

On Monday, the 32-year-old finally addressed the incident in a social media Q&A session, admitting she was 'not proud' of her actions and revealing what steps she was taking to make amends.

'I wasn't actually drink driving. I got charged with being in possession of a motor vehicle while over the limit. I will talk about it soon,' Skye began. 

'Definitely not proud of my actions. Have done a Queensland Traffic Offenders Program course plus going to therapy.' 

She added that she had mostly cut alcohol from her diet, only allowing for the occasional weekend indulgence.

'Only drinking mocktails (had a wine over the weekend and a few cocktails) but definitely getting to know my limits which I feel really good about,' Skye wrote.

'It's a s**t situation but I feel like so much good came from it. Really wanting to sit down and do a story time on this, I will soon. Just been struggling mentally for real, so taking some time out to go through it all.'

It has been a challenging few weeks for the former reality TV star.

Last month, the Southport Magistrates Court heard that police found Skye passed out inside her car at a McDonald's on the Gold Coast after she consumed a bottle of Jim Beam in the vehicle over several hours. 

Skye returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.119 after officers tapped on the vehicle's windows and woke her up, at which point they detected a 'strong smell of liquor coming from the vehicle'.

Her lawyer, Belinda Robinson, told the court Skye had flown to Melbourne on August 8 and was sleep-deprived when she returned home to the Gold Coast late. 

Robinson said the mother-of-two, who recently called time on her relationship with long-time partner Lachlan Waugh, had been experiencing anxiety and depression about coming home and had barely eaten for a week before the incident.

Skye pleaded guilty to being in charge of a motor vehicle while over the middle alcohol limit.

Robinson told the court that Skye was upset about 'coming home to an empty house' before making the trip to McDonald's for a Frozen Coke drink. 

Police prosecutor Darcey Hugonnet was dubious about Robinson's claim that Skye was sober when she arrived at the fast food venue and had purchased a bottle of Jim Beam at a nearby bottle shop before drinking in her car. 

Acting Magistrate Mark Whitbread also shared his doubts with the court. 

'It sounds unbelievable to me, having heard many of these things over the years,' he said.

'I simply can't see how that could be accepted.'

In mitigation, Robinson said Skye had, since the incident, taken steps to address both her mental health and her relationship with alcohol.

The court heard she has participated in a police program since August 20, has consulted a psychologist and has begun taking medication for anxiety and depression.
