What Mel C Said to Victoria Beckham That Nearly Ended Spice Girls Run
2 became 1 when Melanie "Mel C" Chisholm married Chris Dingwall.
The Spice Girls star wed the model in a legal ceremony in his home country of Australia before tying the knot at a friend’s lakeside property in Cumbria, England, July 18 with a special “something borrowed” from longtime friend Victoria Beckham.
“I was actually having dinner with Melanie and asked her what she was up to,” Beckham told British Vogue in an interview published July 19. “She very casually told me she was leaving for Australia in two days and getting married!”
And while Mel C noted she “didn’t feel like a big traditional wedding” was right for her, the chance encounter allowed the 52-year-old to partake in a wedding tradition she may have otherwise overlooked.
“When I asked what she was wearing, she mentioned she had actually ordered one of my dresses but that it didn’t quite fit, and she didn’t have time to get it altered before leaving,” Beckham continued. “I happened to have that exact dress in my own wardrobe and offered to lend it to her.”
So, the Ivory slip dress came with the couple to Australia. And when the time came for Mel C—mom to 17-year-old daughter Scarlett Starr with ex Thomas Starr—and Dingwall to have their second ceremony, Beckham says she “obviously offered to make her dream dress” out of the simplistic number for what Mel C described as a “quite low-key, relaxed, romantic and chic” lakeside wedding.
As for what Sporty Spice thinks of having Beckham’s help with the dress?
“Victoria’s dress was my something borrowed,” Mel C said. “It was very special, having her there.”

Mel C and Dingwall first met on the dating app Raya three years ago before going on their first date in The Land Down Under.
“The spark was immediate,” she said. “I was 49 when I met Chris and I was in a really good place. We had a date in Australia, and it’s been difficult to separate us ever since.”
That’s why when the producer popped the question to Mel C while the pair were vacationing in Mallorca last July, it was an easy yes.
“It was beautiful, just the two of us,” she recalled. “He couldn’t believe I was surprised but I was floored.”
Though she didn’t see it coming, when Chris proposed, “I just knew immediately it was the right thing to do,” she added. “I’ve had this awakening in my 50s—I’m very comfortable in my skin. I thought, you know what, this is a part of my story. When you’re my age you’re like… I actually want to experience all of the things.”
