The Star Wars franchise is no stranger to canceled movies and shows at this point, but it doesn't get any easier each time it happens. From concept art that shows a promising alternate version of films we never got to see, or simply those that never ever made their way to the cutting room floor before being shelved, it's always a sad sight to see a Star Wars outing get axed.
Although many of these potential projects will likely never see the light of day again, there's one canceled entry that fans have been mourning ever since it was initially announced, some of whom have even been rallying others together with petitions in hopes of bringing it back from the dead by proving there's still demand for the experience all these years later.
Shared by users like Spardath01 on Reddit, the petition made to bring attention to Star Wars Outlaws and its canceled sequel has reached 3,172 signatures at the time of writing, which has been made with the goal of "asking Ubisoft to reconsider" their decision to axe the series after its first entry performed below expectations.
While countless petitions have been made over the years for developers to revisit long-forgotten franchises, we do know that a Star Wars Outlaws sequel had started pre-production not long after the release of Star Wars Outlaws but was shut down due to the negative perception around its launch.
While many fans have rallied together in support of the petition, which has managed to reach 3,172 signatures at the time of writing this, other fans were quick to say that these kinds of online petitions "are absolutely super dumb and never work."
Others also joined in to say that while they desperately "100% agree" that Star Wars Outlaws deserves a second chance after the influx of new fans from the Switch edition, others pointed out Outlaws was far from the only game canned at the time, as the studio canceled 6 games and delayed a further 7 along with more layoffs, and that "no petition will do anything" to help the series.
Even if you weren't a fan of the Ubisoft formula in Star Wars Outlaws or completely avoided the game after seeing the sheer amount of negativity surrounding its release, it still managed to be "reviewed higher than Jedi Fallen Order," which many fans are still finding out for themselves that while not for everyone, its still a "criminally underrated" game that didn't deserve to be shelved so soon.
While it's hard to believe that a petition with a few thousand signatures would make Ubisoft invest hundreds of millions into an experimental new sequel, it is sad to see that there are still plenty of players eagerly awaiting a game that could have started a new era of Star Wars games as opposed to the slump we're currently in.
Thankfully, we did still get a few pieces of additional content for Star Wars Outlaws in the form of a story DLC and prequel comic to further explore its unique characters and setting within the greater Star Wars universe, but it seems like the underrated series will be relegated to the ever-growing graveyard of canceled Star Wars games that will likely never see the light of day.
