Stephen King's 1974 Horror Classic Returns in First Look at Prime Video's New 8-Episode Series

Midnight Mass and Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan's new eight-episode adaptation, coming to Prime Video in October, brings Carrie White to modern-day America.

Besides feeling out of place in her public high school, Carrie White (played by Summer H. Howell) must also face the horrors of social media in Prime Video's Carrie miniseries. Due to her strict upbringing, Carrie is presented much as she is in the original novel and in previous adaptations: She's a naive and innocent young girl walking into a house of wolves. However, gossip and pranks aren't the only thing she has to worry about. Her bullies' intentions are still very much the same, but they find new ways to shame her in this digital era — cyberbullying was nonexistent in previous iterations of Carrie.

The well-known locker room scene appears in the first full trailer for Carrier, but this time, with students pulling out their phones and recording the scene. This leads to the mean girls creating an Instagram account to troll Carrie further and share the videos.

Carrie also stars series regulars Samantha Sloyan (The Pitt) as Margaret White, Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) as Sue Snell, Amber Midthunder (Prey) as Miss Desjardin, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, and Matthew Lillard (Man of Tomorrow) as Principal Grayle. They'll be joined by guest stars including Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Tim Bagley, and Heather Graham.

This isn't Mike Flanagan's first rodeo when it comes to Stephen King adaptations, but it might be the most important one yet. Carrie was King's first published novel and became one of the best-known works in his career. For many, Brian De Palma's Carrie (1976), featuring Sissy Spacek as Carrie White, has not been dethroned as the best adaptation of the novel. It is safe to say that expectations are particularly high, but Flanagan definitely has what it takes to make the miniseries a success.

Fans won't have to wait long to watch Carrie, as it's coming to Prime Video this fall. All eight episodes of Flanagan's Carrie will be available on Oct. 7.
