Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham leaves soccer behind for espionage in the first Ride or Die trailer.
Prime Video has now released the first Ride or Die trailer, which opens by showing how Judith and Debbie first became friends before jumping to 20 years later in the timeline. Things then quickly turn from attending a book club to being shot at, and Debbie is in for another surprise when Judith takes out her own gun and begins firing at their attackers. Check out the trailer below:
As the trailer continues, Judith reveals that she is an assassin who gets hired to kill "terrible people." It's also explained that Debbie's husband stole millions of dollars from the mob, which is why she is now being hunted.
Judith proceeds to use her expertise to help her friend go on the run, but this gets more complicated when Bill Nighy's character, The Director, gives her the ultimatum of choosing between the organization she works for and Debbie. Based on the rest of the footage, it seems clear that she has chosen the friendship over her employers.
In addition to Waddingham, Spencer, and Nighy, Ride or Die's cast features Ed Skrein as Billy, Sylvia Hoeks as Ana, Calam Lynch as Sam, Savannah Stein as Queenie, Jacky Ido as Jacques, Jamie Parker as David. The series was created by Tessa Coates, who is also an executive producer alongside showrunner Matt Miller, director Peyton Reed, Waddingham, and Spencer. All eight episodes come to Prime Video on July 15.
Credit: Prime VideoTed Lasso season 4 is debuting on August 5, meaning that audiences will get to see Waddingham in Ride or Die first. It is another impressive slate of summer releases for her, following Disney's live-action Lilo and Stitch remake, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, and Smurfs all coming out in summer 2025. The Prime Video show looks to be blending her extensive comedy experience with a more action-heavy role than she has had in the past. Between Ted Lasso and the sitcom Krapopolis, she is a four-time Emmy nominee, and she won for season 1 of the Apple TV series.
Spencer has plenty of her own awards recognition after winning an Academy Award for The Help and being nominated for Hidden Figures and The Shape of Water. Nighy received an Academy Award nomination for Living and is a four-time Golden Globe Award nominee, who won in 2007 for Gideon's Daughter. Instead of another drama, they are now showing the other side of their talents in the action comedy of Ride or Die.
Ride or Die comes to Prime Video on July 15.
