Game Of Thrones’ Sea Snake Prequel Series Gets Exciting New Update & Story Tease From HOTD Star

Game of Thrones' Sea Snake spinoff gets an exciting update and story tease from Steve Toussaint.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley for House of the Dragon season 3, Toussaint was asked about any insights or updates he has about the Sea Snake prequel series. While it still has not been greenlit, the actor shared that as far as he knows, "it's ongoing" and "still a possibility." He also discussed how it would be animated rather than live-action and indicated that he would be voicing the character. Check out Toussaint's comments below:

I'm afraid I don't. I mean, initially when it was mooted, when we were shooting season 1, it was mooted and I was like, "Oh my God, that'd be great." And then I thought, "I can't play 21 again. Oh s***, it's too late." And then George [R.R. Martin] said to me, "Oh no, it'll be animated." And I was like, "Okay, great." But that's the last I heard. I saw George just a few weeks ago and as far as I'm aware, it's ongoing. I don't know what stage they're at with it, but it's still a possibility. But other than that, I don't know.

Abubakar Salim, who plays Corlys' son Alyn of Hull in House of the Dragon, mentioned during the interview how "We've got a play now, so we got to get an animated version." This is in reference to the Game of Thrones: The Mad King stage play that is being performed for a limited run at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre this summer.

As for what Toussaint would like to explore in a Sea Snake spinoff, he expressed interest in seeing how Corlys won over Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best), who he is married to and has children with in House of the Dragon. He also wants to see his character's adventures and believes that the reason for them ties back to the relationship with Rhaenys.

Steve Toussaint: Do you know actually what most interests me about them, and this is terrible because I'm a bit of a romantic, I'm actually more interested in how he won Rhaenys.

Abubakar Salim: I think that's really cool.

Steve Toussaint: Yeah. And then I love the stuff about him going off and adventures because I think a lot of him doing that is his spirit that he has to go and see, but also to impress this lady.

Abubakar Salim: Who literally has everything.

Steve Toussaint: Who has everything. Yeah. He has to prove himself. Yeah. So I find that the most interesting aspect of it.

While the project still has a long way to go, Toussaint's comments indicate that it has not been officially scrapped, unlike the Bloodmoon prequel or Jon Snow sequel spinoffs. Potentially reprising the role of the Sea Snake in animation is also a promising sign, as it would help provide continuity with the live-action version of the character in House of the Dragon. There is the possibility of Best and some of Toussaint's other co-stars returning to voice Rhaenys and their respective established characters, ensuring even further continuity.

Before the prequel series potentially becomes a reality, audiences can see the Sea Snake and Alyn in House of the Dragon season 3. The new season debuts on June 21 and opens with the bloody naval battle known as the Battle of the Gullet, which will involve both Corlys and Alyn, who are fighting on the side of the Blacks and Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy). This is the penultimate season, as season 4 is confirmed to be the end of the show.

Other than House of the Dragon, the only ongoing Game of Thrones spinoff is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which released season 1 in early 2026 and is in the midst of filming season 2, which has a 2027 release window. As for brand-new projects, Aegon's Conquest is officially moving forward and is set to be the franchise's first movie. If the Sea Snake series is eventually greenlit, it would break further ground as the franchise's first animated show.

House of the Dragon season 3 debuts at 9:00 pm. ET on June 21 on HBO and HBO Max.
