GTA 6 Netflix Special Length Officially Confirmed

In case you missed all the excitement yesterday, Rockstar finally broke cover and confirmed that fans can expect an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI on August 27. In news that would have come as a surprise to many, that preview will go live on Netflix first, before being uploaded to other platforms six hours later.

You'll notice that I didn't use the word trailer, because it seems like the intention is to give us a much more extensive preview of the game than we would get in a traditional three-minute video. In fact, potential details have now emerged about exactly how long it's going to be, and it really might be time to get excited.

How Long Is GTA 6's August 27 Netflix Special?

As first reported by Vice, the Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look presentation is supposedly set to be 20 minutes long, if Netflix customer support is to be believed. The runtime was revealed after a subscriber contacted the customer to learn more, where they were told “Netflix subscribers will be able to watch the GTA VI Extended Look on August 27 at 3:00 PM ET. The showcase will last approximately 20 minutes.”

The only caveat to that is that the information was likely provided by a chatbot or automated service, though it's difficult to see why they would program that information in if it wasn't true.

So what exactly is it all going to be about? Well, it certainly feels like that extended runtime has been allocated to give players their first real look at gameplay. Though they will absolutely keep plenty in reserve, we will likely also get a breakdown of some specific features, stores, and more details about the characters.

There has been plenty of conversation around this presentation potentially cropping up for a while now, with YouTuber DarkViperAU predicting it some time ago, while gaming insider NateTheHate also previously claimed that the next GTA VI trailer would provide a more “meaningful look" at the game.

Do You Need A Netflix Subscription?

The only caveat to all of that good fun is that you will need an active Netflix subscription to watch the GTA VI presentation when it goes live. The extended preview debuting onto the platform is obviously designed to drive subscriptions up further, but if you don't feel like paying, you only have to wait around six hours before it ends up on YouTube.
