Kate Middleton Details Her Cancer Battle’s Impact on Her Kids
Kate Middleton Details How Cancer Battle Impacted Prince William, Their Kids in Rare Comment
Kate Middleton is detailing a cancer diagnosis’ ripple effect.
Specifically, how it impacts the loved ones of the person navigating the illness. Over a year after the Princess of Wales announced her cancer was in remission, she shared insight into how “tough” the experience was for husband Prince William, their kids Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11 and Prince Louis, 8, and the rest of the family.
“I know it’s as hard for the family and loved ones,” Kate said while visiting a cancer patient who was celebrating the end of her own treatment in a video shared by Hello magazine. “I know how hard it was for the children and my parents.”
As she told the cancer patient’s partner, “You go through it with them.”
Indeed, William and Kate have emphasized how much her battle affected their life at home.
"The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you," Kate said in a social media video after she completed chemotherapy in 2025. “With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything.”
The 44-year-old, who shared her diagnosis in March 2024, noted that her cancer journey gave their entire family a reminder to “be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved.”
After Kate completed treatment, William—whose dad King Charles III shared his own cancer diagnosis a month before Kate—shared that their children were “constantly learning and adapting” the following month.

“We try to make sure we give them the security and the safety that they need,” he shared during an October 2025 appearance on The Reluctant Traveler, “and we’re a very open family, so we talk about the things that bother us, the things that trouble us. But you never quite know the knock-on effects it can have.”
Despite it all, he and Kate held one principle above all else in their family.
“It’s just important to be there for each other,” he explained, “and reassure the children that everything is okay.”
Over a year later, Kate is more than OK, with William recently emphasizing he was “very, very proud” of her recovery.
“She's been amazing,” he said during an appearance on Heart Breakfast last month. “She's been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly. And she's been looking forward the Italian trip a lot and so I'm really glad it went really well.”
