Mass Effect Is Officially Getting Two Major Releases In Early 2027

At the time of writing, the Mass Effect franchise remains in stasis. Although Mass Effect 5 has been confirmed by BioWare, its development progress remains a mystery, and with the recent purchase of EA by Saudi Arabian investors, the future is looking murky for the beloved sci-fi series.

Beginning its life back in 2007 with Mass Effect, the action RPG series by BioWare went on to welcome two further entries, making up what we know today as the Mass Effect Trilogy. Then, in 2017, the franchise returned with the launch of Mass Effect: Andromeda. Unfortunately, this one did not receive the same amount of love as its predecessors, but that has not stopped fans from wanting the story to continue, so hopefully, we do not have much longer to wait for Mass Effect 5.

Mass Effect Fans Should Mark Their Calendars For January 2027

Set to begin shipping in January 2027, Dark Horse Direct has unveiled two brand-new figures inspired by EDI and Thane Krios from the Mass Effect Trilogy. Coming in at £41.54 each yet including highly detailed iterations of the beloved characters, these are two collectibles you do not want to miss, and luckily, they are available for pre-order now.

The EDI Figure stands at 8.6 inches tall and its official description reads as follows: "Unshackled AI and tech specialist, EDI has commandeered a new frame for the final fight with Cerberus, the Reapers, and anyone in the way. Whether keeping Joker on task in the cockpit or dominating cyber warfare in the heat of combat, EDI’s dedication to the survival of her crew and the space-faring life of the Milky Way gives Shepard and the Normandy an essential edge in this fight for survival."

As for the Thane Krios figure, the 8.75 inches statue stands ready to fight in incredible detail, with the Dark Horse Direct description reading as follows: "Walking the line between shadowed assassin and warrior monk, Thane’s waters run deep. Facing a terminal prognosis and mending his history of murder and regret, Thane has committed to the galactic struggle while reconciling the duality of his life."

What's Going On With Mass Effect 5?

As mentioned, Mass Effect 5 remains in development, albeit with little to no official updates from BioWare. According to Mass Effect project director Mike Gamble, the highly anticipated title has BioWare "just busy workin’" with the team not having a "lot of time for a tease."

Following the launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard back in 2024, BioWare announced that it would be shifting its focus to the development of Mass Effect 5 and so, we will probably still be waiting a few years for its launch at the time of writing.

However, as one of the most successful sci-fi RPG series of all time, a lot of hope rides on Mass Effect 5's shoulders, so we can only hope that it will live up to expectations.
