Richard Gere Reacts to Son Homer's Euphoria Breakout Role

Richard Gere is in awe of his eldest son's skyrocketing acting career following his unexpected role in the final season of HBO's Euphoria.

"I would have been happy to say, 'Homer, forget it. Don't do this,'" he exclusively told E! News' Will Marfuggi while promoting season two of The Agency. "But he wasn't pointed towards it. This came late. He's 26 years old."

"He was an artist," Richard explained of Homer, who he shares with ex-wife Carey Lowell. "He had a degree in visual arts and his second was in psychology. He was in a different headframe altogether, and this started as a fluke with him of making student films and writing them, directing them, acting in them and just fooling around, and he was having fun."

However, the 76-year-old’s perspective on his son's acting prospects changed when Homer finally showed him what he had been working on.

"He showed me what he was doing," he recalled, "and I said, 'You are really good.'"

"One thing led to another and then he's doing Euphoria," Richard added, "and then he's doing another show. He's doing a long format show which will probably be two to three years of his life with Ryan Murphy, and he just came back from shooting a movie with Oliver Stone."

All of which is welcome news for the Pretty Woman actor, who joked that he could finally hang up his hat in Hollywood and officially pass the baton to his son.

"This is great for me," Richard—also dad to Alexander Gere, 7, and James Gere, 6, with wife Alejandra Silva—quipped, "because I can retire and he can take care of me. I'm very happy with that."

As for Homer, he called his film filming Euphoria—in which he played TV star Dylan Reid who has sex with Sydney Sweeney's Cassie Howard—a "wild" ride.

"This is my first real set experience," he told Entertainment Tonight in April. "It's jumping into the deep end in a really cool way."

"I'm an actor playing an actor playing a character," he added. "You kind of get lost in it."

And, while he doesn't practice for his roles with his Runaway Bride star dad, he has gotten solid advice from him.

"I don't run lines with him," Homer said, before joking that it "would be funny" if he were to rehearse his Euphoria scenes with his dad. "He gives great advice. It's not necessarily related to the craft, but more like how do you carry yourself, how do you make this work in a more positive way."
