What image made you realize your new gear was worth it?

Buying a new camera is an exciting feeling. For this week’s community question, we’re asking readers: what image made you realize your new gear was worth it?

This image was taken with an Olympus M-1, which Abby bought while in Japan for CP+. It was from the first roll of film she put through the camera, and while the subject matter is near and dear, it was also one of the images that made her especially happy she purchased the camera.

With the updated DPReview website, new things are all the rage today. We’ve previously asked you about your first and favorite new cameras, about your first and favorite photos, and now we’d like to combine the two for this week’s community question.

What image made you realize your new gear was worth it?

We’d love to hear the story behind the piece of gear – whether it’s a lens, camera, flash or something else – and see the images that sparked that appreciation. It could be a piece of equipment that was only new to you, as was the case for the camera used to take the image at the top of the article, or something fresh out of a box.
