Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is a force of nature. As the third part in the trilogy, it arguably has the toughest job, as it needs to close out a decades-long epic in a way that's satisfactory to as many old and new fans as humanly possible. It's a tall ask, no matter how good the game is. That said, we had the chance to chat with the game's director, and it seemed like everything was in good hands.
The game seems to be progressing along nicely, and the ability to leap out of the Highwind airship into the open world could make this the most interesting entry yet. What's more interesting, though, is that, thanks to a new listing from the Epic Games Store, it seems like the core Revelation game will not be the end of the journey.
Thanks to new information this week, it seems Square Enix is planning a future beyond the final entry in the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy. It's been roughly a decade in the making, but the last core game is almost here, and it could have DLC to continue the story.
According to a listing from the Epic Games Store DB, multiple DLC entries were added to the store page. In addition to a "Premium Edition" of the game, there are multiple DLC listings, from DLC 1 to DLC 9. There is no information about what these individual listings are, as they don't include a description of their content.
Note that these could be placeholders, or simply listings for cosmetic DLC in the backend. The "Premium Edition" moniker definitely sets this up to be the case, especially if the many individual DLCs are bonus outfits for main party members. With Aerith possibly back in the mix (either through a magical twist or a flashback), there are nine total party members. A "pre-purchase bonus" is also mentioned.
Now, while it could easily be hand-waved away with cosmetics, there is a real chance that Square Enix might want to go all-out for the final part of their ambitious remake trilogy. While the core game will likely suss out the main storyline, including the confrontation between Cloud and Sephiroth, we could also get numerous "wrap-up" DLCs featuring major characters to close out the winding storylines this trilogy has woven.
Both cases could be true. We have many months to figure out what the pre-order incentives will be for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, as Square Enix starts promoting the game in earnest ahead of its "Q1/Q2" 2027 release.
